In the kingdom of Nonsense, thinking was considered a dangerous activity. Anyone caught using logic without a government permit was immediately sent to the Department of Unnecessary Suffering. The king, His Majesty Braincell the Third, had ruled for seventeen years without making a single sensible decision. His greatest achievement was banning umbrellas because he believed rain was a conspiracy invented by wet people.
His ministers applauded. They were paid extra for that. One unfortunate Tuesday, a young woman named Mira arrived at the royal palace to apply
for a job. She had excellent qualifications, a functioning brain, and the terrible habit of asking questions.Naturally, the recruitment officer hated her immediately.“Your greatest weakness?” he asked.“People who confuse authority with intelligence.”The officer blinked. Somewhere in the distance, a government employee fainted.
“You’re hired!” he shouted. “We desperately need someone to blame when things go wrong.”Mira’s first assignment was to solve the kingdom’s financial crisis.
Apparently, the royal treasury was empty despite collecting taxes for everything, including breathing, blinking, and having thoughts without government approval.
“Where did the money go?” Mira asked. The finance minister adjusted his golden spectacles.“We invested it in invisible horses.”“Why?”“They don’t require food.”
“Do they exist?”“That’s why they’re so affordable.”Mira immediately understood that the kingdom wasn’t suffering from a financial crisis. It was suffering from an intelligence shortage so
severe that even stupidity was probably considering resignation. She presented her solution to the king.“Your Majesty, we should stop wasting money.”The king gasped.“Are you suggesting we become poor?”
“No. I’m suggesting we stop behaving as though money grows on trees.”“Impossible!” shouted the agriculture minister. “We tried planting coins last year. Nothing grew except a lawsuit.”The king ordered Mira’s execution.
Unfortunately, the executioner had recently joined a motivational seminar titled Discover Your Inner Peace. He refused to execute anyone until he’d completed his emotional healing journey.
This gave Mira enough time to make one final proposal.“Your Majesty, let the citizens elect their own leaders.”The entire court fell silent. The king stared at her.“Are you mad? What if they choose someone intelligent?”
Everyone shuddered. That evening, Mira escaped the palace on an invisible horse. It took three days to reach the border because nobody had invented invisible roads yet.
Behind her, the kingdom continued functioning exactly as before. The finance minister declared bankruptcy. The agriculture minister planted another lawsuit.
And the king introduced a revolutionary new tax on people who had considered leaving the country. It was wildly successful.Nobody could afford to leave.
Moral of the story: Never underestimate the power of stupidity when it has access to public funds, unlimited confidence, and a committee willing to approve everything.
Especially the committee.
In a kingdom where thinking is illegal, and the king believes rain is a conspiracy, you are offered a job advising him. Do you
Your vote is final.
