If life came with a customer care department, I would have been their most loyal customer. Not because I enjoy complaining, but because I have several unresolved issues, multiple pending requests, and absolutely no idea how to operate my own life.My mornings begin with ambition. I wake up and announce, “Today, I am going to change my life.”
Then I check my phone.Suddenly, it is 11 a.m., and I know the entire history of a celebrity’s divorce, three strangers’ skincare routines, and why a woman in another country stopped talking to her best friend. Meanwhile, my own life remains an unsolved mystery. But tomorrow will be different, obviously.
I have discovered that I am excellent at planning. Give me a notebook, a pen, and fifteen minutes, and I can design a routine so impressive that even a government officer would consider me disciplined. Five in the morning: wake up. Five fifteen: meditation. Six: exercise. Seven: study.
Execution, however, is a separate department, and apparently, that department has been permanently closed due to staff shortages. Then comes the career question.
Indian parents do not ask, “Are you happy?” They ask, “What are you doing with your life?”Apparently, happiness is a luxury available only after securing a respectable job, preferably one with a government stamp on the appointment letter.Honestly, I want a government job too. The stability, the respect, the salary arriving every month. Beautiful.
But somewhere between preparing for competitive examinations and imagining my future, I realised that I do not just want financial independence. I want the freedom to buy a packet of chips without conducting a parliamentary debate in my head.Is that too much to ask?And relationships? Oh, please. They deserve their own separate investigation department.
One minute, you are imagining a peaceful future together. The next, you are analysing a two-word reply like a forensic expert examining evidence at a crime scene.
“Okay.”Just okay?Is he angry? Is he busy? Is Mercury in retrograde? Should I send another message or preserve my dignity?
Meanwhile, he is probably eating momos without knowing that an entire courtroom proceeding has taken place inside my head.Growing up, I thought adulthood meant having answers. Now I suspect it means Googling how to remove stains, calculating expenses, and pretending you know what you are doing.
But perhaps that is the funniest part of being human. We are all improvising, making mistakes, changing plans, and occasionally crying over things that will become hilarious stories later. So, if your life is currently a beautiful disaster, congratulations. You are not necessarily failing.
You might simply be experiencing the free trial of adulthood, and unfortunately, there is no cancellation button.

If life came with a customer care department I would have been their most loyal customer, this line got me instantly. And the way you explained unresolved issues, pending requests and no idea how to operate your own life is so honest and funny. The morning ambition of today I am going to change my life and then suddenly its 11 am and you know everything about a celebrity's divorce and strangers skincare routines while your own life remains an unsolved mystery, that is so real. Your planning part is also perfect, give you a notebook and fifteen minutes and you can design a routine so impressive. Loved how you wrote it.
