This one is from my adolescent years. I remember watching 'Suit life of Zac and Cody' on Disney Channel. In the commercial break, I heard a soothing and playful jingle 'Kitna maza aaye re' and I turned my attention back to the TV. It was an animated ad featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto working at a chocolate factory. They made variety of chocolates. Finally they revealed the chocolate - classic rectangular chocolate having white chocolate in the center making a shape of the iconic cartoon characters which featured in the ads. The name of the chocolate was 'Wowie'. I was intrigued by the idea of combining regular and milk chocolate along with incorporating the cartoon characters. I loved the concept mainly because I loved the cartoon characters. I decided that I was going to try that chocolate.
Luckily for me I did not have to buy it, I just got it. Next day a classmate had their birthday and distributed 'Wowie' to the class (this classmate was wealthy and had a reputation of being on trend or knowing what was new). More than eating I was more interested in how the chocolate looks. I must say the design was impeccable. The details had been carved to perfection. The figures of all characters were perfect. Not only that their expressions, postures, and proportions were masterfully crafted. I loved how beautiful the chocolate was. The taste of it was the classic cadbury dairy milk, so it was nothing unexpected. But design was something that won my heart. Wowie had undoubtedly become my new favorite. It costed what a regular Dairy Milk would cost. The cartoon characters on them made Wowie special.
Later Wowie introduced more concepts, more actions, and more characters. However the OG remained more popular. They also introduced promotional offers with stickers for a limited period. Me being a fan had been wondering if these were required for promotion, completely unaware that the fans of the products were less. Probably I was one of few fans of Wowie. Per the shopkeeper, I was one of the very few people who would buy Wowie. Not many people were interested in it. They would have the stock and most of it would be returned to the manufacturer. I was sad to hear that. It was nit difficult to guess that my favorite chocolate had been disapproved by the masses. It only meant that it would soon disappear from shops and eventually will disappear from the markets all together.
It had become the reality. Wowie started disappearing from the counters. It would not be found in most shops. Once the shopkeeper told me that they are not receiving the supply of Wowie, which told me that we are very closer to the stage where the production of Wowie would be stopped or it had already been stopped. Soon it disappeared compketely from the shops and subsequently from the memories too.
Even after several years, I still remember Wowie. It was not just a chocolate for me, it was my childhood in a shiny wrapper.
