"I'oast to the ones that we lost on the way."
There are people who were once a normal part ofour everyday lives. You didn't think twice about seeing them . You didn't wonder whether you'd talk to them again. You didn't take mental photographs of ordinary moments . You simply assumed there would be another day.
Another conversation . Another stupid joke . Another birthday. Another opportunity to say goodbye properly. Then life happened . People moved away. Friendships faded.Families changed. Some relationships ended. And some people simply became memories.
That is the strange thing about memories. While we're living them, they don't important enough to preserve. A random evening with friends doesn't feel like history. A family dinner doesn't feel like something you'll miss. Walking home from school with the same people every day feels completely ordinary. Until one day , you realize you haven't done it in years.
Then something ridiculous happens. A song plays. A smell reminds you of a particular place. You find an old photograph. You hear someone's name. And suddenly, you're back then.bNot physically. But for a few seconds, your mind reconstructs a version of your life that no longer exists.
That's what ifind beautiful and painful about memories. They allow us to revisit places we can never actually return to. Sometimes I miss people I don't even want back in my life. That's an uncomfortable truth. Missing someone doesn't necessarily mean you should reconnect with them. It doesn't mean the relationship should have continued.
It simply means that person mattered during a particular chapter of your life. And chapters can end without becoming meaningless. There are also people. I barely speak to anymore but still remember incredibly clearly. A school friend whose voice I can still imagine. Someone I once spoke to every day but now only see through an occasional social media post
A person who was once central to my life and is now almost a stranger. It's strange how someone can go from "Tell me everything" to "I wonder how they're doing'. Maybe that's adulthood. People don't always leave dramatically. Sometimes they disappear slowly. One fewer message. One cancelled plan.
Different colleges, Different jobs. Different cities. Different lives and one day, you realize the friendship ended somewhere between two ordinary conversations. That's why I understand the line about raising a toast to the people we lost along the way.Not 2vwry loss is death. Sometimes we lose people because life simply moves in different directions.
And perhaps we should still be grateful for them . Not every person is supposed to stay forever. Some people belong to childhood. Some belong to college. Some belong to a particular year. Some belong to a version of us that doesn't exist anymore . But that doesn't make them less important.
If anything, it makes thouse moments more precious. Because we didn't know rhey were temporary. We thought they were just life. And maybe that's the biggest lesson memories teach us.We rarely recognize the good old days while we're living them. We only recognize the good old days while we're living them. We only recognize them after they become the past.
So here's to the people who stayed. Here's to the people who left. Here's to the friendships that lasted and the ones that quality disappeared. Here's to the places we can't return to and the versions of ourselves we can only visit through photographs and songs.
And here's to the memories. Because sometimes, when everything else is gone, they are the only place where we can still meet the people we used to be.

When you think about people who have drifted out of your life, do you
