Some of the worst decisions I have made were not because I lacked brain or did not know better. They happened because, at that particular moment, I felt something too strongly I was angry so I wanted to send the message.i was hurt so I wanted to end everything I was lonely, so I wanted to go back I was afraid, so I wanted to reject an opportunity I actually wanted.
The problem with feelings is not that they are irrational or unnecessary. Feelings often tell us something important..Anger can tell us that a boundary has been crossed. Fear can warn us about danger. Sadness can warn us about danger. Sadness can show is what we have lost. Guilt can make us question our actions.
I learned this through an argument with someone close to me .I felt misunderstood, and the more I replayed the conversation in my head, the angrier I become. Within an hour. I had written a long message explaining everything they had done wrong it was detailed emotional and completely ready to destroy whatever peace remained between us.
My thumb was hovering over the send button. I wanted them to feel exactly what I was feeling. I wanted them to read every sentence and finally understand how much they had hurt me . But I stopped.
Not because I suddenly became less angry, I was still furious. I simply asked myself one question: what do I want to happen after this message is sent?.
That question changed everything. Did I actually want to solve the problem, or did I just want to win it? Did I want to communicate, or did I want to hurt them back?. The next day, I read the message again. Some parts were vaild, but others existed only because I wanted to make them feel guilty, of I had sent it. I would have had to deal with the consequences of a temporary emotion long after that emotion had passed.
So I rewrote it. I still expressed what hurt me. I still disagreed . But I removed the sentences that existed only tobwound.. That experience taught me the difference between feeling something and obeying it
You can love someone and still know that being with them is wrong for you. You can miss someone and still choose not to contact them.vYou can feel guilty and still say no. You can be terrified and still accept an opportunity, you can be angry and still waiting before responding.
Separating feelings from decision does not mean becoming cold or pretending emotions do not exist it means giving them a seat in the room without handing them complete control. Feel thevanger, sadness,, and loneliness, but before making a decision, give yourself enough distance to ask what your future self will have to live with. You do not have to stop feeling deeply. You just have to stop letting every feeling decide where your life goes next.

When you feel a strong emotion, do you
