For each and every person the school holds a special place in their heart. I am not an exception to this rule. Though my relationship with my school had been complicated I still love my school. I would like to note down some of the facts of my school that made it special.

My school was a simple government aided school. So one may guess that it was nowhere close to the fancy and luxurious schools of today. Our classrooms were not air conditioned. We had old wooden benches in my school. My school did not have white boards but blackboards. All these external factors made my school ordinary. But what did lie beneath the surface made my school special.

One factor that made my school special was its students. I remember in my school nobody was from a wealthy background. Most students were from lower middle class backgrounds like myself while few students also belong to low income groups. Our lives were not luxurious but that was okay. We did have fancy stationary. Most of us had been using the stationary passed on to us from our elder siblings and we were not ashamed to use the second hand stuff. We rather had been proud of it. I remember once I had taken my dad's old book to the school and I almost became a school hero. School taught us frugal habits which help me even today.

The legacy of students did not stop there. Our school management also used to invite ex students for school events as chief guests. This way school would highlight how the students became successful. The ex students would get an opportunity to express their gratitude towords the school management. This opportunity would also benefit the students who were studying in the school. It would strengthen their belief in the school for their own academic and professional journey. As students we would see the ex students as our superheroes. We were fascinating to see the students grown up to reach the highest levels in their lives. Also these students looked relatable because the bond of school had been binding us to them.

The current students of the school were also engaged in various activities using the school platforms. I remember we would often have various campaigns in our school such as cleaning up the neighbourhood or helping the elderly cross the roads. Initiative not only help the neighborhood but also taught us values in life with simple actions. This campaigns helped us to become better citizens of our nation. These campaigns often taught us about working in teams and thinking about a broader identity beyond ourselves. Because when we participated in this activities we were not individuals but representatives of our school.

Looking back I often remember how the school life had shaped me what I am today. A lot of my current habits and behaviour had been linked to the lessons that I had learnt in my school life. I believe my school had given us these learnings and that is why I believe my school was special.

When looking back at a school that shaped you, do you

There is a very specific kind of duality when we look back at our school days. Most of us hold a deeply special place in our hearts for those sunlit classrooms, old wooden desks, and simpler times, even if our actual experience back then was complicated, messy, or full of teenage angst. Looking at a classroom bustling with young learners brings back a rush of bittersweet nostalgia—reminding us that the places where we first figured out who we are will always feel like an old home we can never quite return to, but never truly leave behind.
