Loving someone from a distance

One of the strangest feelings is missing someone while knowing that you cannot simply call them. There may be days when you want to know how they are doing. You may wonder if something important happened in their life or whether they are happy. But the distance between you is not always something you can cross, no matter how much you want to.
That is what makes loving someone from a distance so difficult.
The person is still important to you, but you no longer have a place in their everyday life. You may not know what their routine looks like anymore. You do not know what has been making them happy or what they have been struggling with. Once, you may have known these small details without even asking. Now, you are left wondering.
Sometimes something happens, and they are still the first person you think of. You may see something that reminds you of a conversation you once had. You may hear a song they would have liked or come across something that you know would have made them laugh. For a moment, your first instinct is to share it with them.
Then you remember that you cannot.
That small moment can hurt more than expected.
It is not always because you want to start everything again. Sometimes you simply miss the comfort of being able to talk to someone who once understood your thoughts so easily. You miss their presence in ordinary moments, not only the big ones.
Loving someone from a distance means learning to carry those moments without acting on them.
It means accepting that you can care about someone and still choose not to contact them. This can look cold from the outside, but sometimes silence is not a lack of feeling. Sometimes silence exists because both people know that speaking again could make things more complicated.
There may be a reason you stopped talking.
Remembering that reason can be difficult when you miss them. The heart tends to remember the good moments. It remembers the laughter, the comfort, and the feeling of having someone. It does not always remind us why the distance became necessary.
So there may be moments when you almost break it.
You may open their chat, type something, and then delete it. You may think about calling them and stop yourself. You may look at their profile, wonder how they are, and then realise that knowing more might only make it harder.
Choosing not to contact someone does not mean you have stopped loving them.
Sometimes it means you are trying to protect both of you from repeating something that cannot continue.
That is not easy.
People often imagine love as holding on. We are taught that if we care enough, we should keep fighting. But sometimes the most difficult form of love is knowing when not to pull someone back into your life.
Distance can teach us things that closeness never did. It can teach us that we cannot control every outcome. We can love someone without possessing a place in their life. We can care about their happiness without being part of it.
Of course, this does not mean the feelings disappear immediately. Some days may be easier than others. You may go weeks without thinking about them and then suddenly remember them because of one small thing.
But slowly, you learn to live with the absence.
You stop expecting messages. You stop checking your phone with the hope of seeing their name. Their memory becomes something you can carry without allowing it to control every part of your present.
Maybe loving someone from a distance is not about waiting for them forever.
Maybe it is about accepting that you cannot be together while still wishing them a life full of happiness.
You may no longer walk beside them.
You may never speak again.
But somewhere in your heart, you can still hope that they are okay.
And sometimes, that is the only way love can remain.
When you miss someone you can't contact, do you
Your vote is final.
