One of the recurring characters of Hannah Montana was Lilly Truscott. Lilly is Miley's best friend from her school. Initially the identity of Hannah Montana was kept hidden from her. Lilly is also a fan of Hannah. Once after the show, she sneaks into Hannah's dressing room and sees a bracelet she had given to Miley. That is when the cat gets out of the bag. After finding out the truth, Lilly assumes a secret identity Lola and supports Hannah during the concerts.

To me, Lilly felt like an interesting character. Lilly has been portrayed to be a 'tom boy' type of girl (tom boy is a term used for girls who prefer dressing like boys, who are into sports, and overall are rough around the edges). Lilly has always been a loving and protective friend. Miley knows that she can depend on Lilly and Hannah knows she can depend on Lola.

When it comes to dressing Lilly and her alter ego Lola are stark opposite. Lilly wears athletic outfits with no accessories. Lilly stays away from make up. While Lola wear brightly coloured wigs, skirt/dresses, heavy accessories and loads of make up. The difference in style makes Lilly to conceal her identity better.

The friendship between Miley and Lilly is beautiful as well as realistic. Two teen girls figuring out their lives together felt far more real and relatable. While watching Hannah Montana, each viewer prayed for a friend like Lilly in their life.

Another aspect of Lilly that was relatable was how easily she would get starstruck. Several episodes show how Lilly reacts in front of celebrities, which is just like how a teen age girl would react after seeing their favorite celebrity. It was funny to see her reactions and demeanor after meeting celebrities.

Also Lilly was so close to Miley that she had been a frequent visitor to Miley's home. She shares a friendly and respectful relationship with Miley's father Robby. Also Robby and Lola often watch Miley's concert from backstage where they sometimes had heartfelt conversations about life, fame, and future.

In my opinion, Lilly had been pivotal to the show. It dove deeper into female friendships during teen years. I could relate to both of them because at that point of time I was a teen myself. Their conversations felt similar to the conversations I had with my friends. They could range from fashion, cliques, crushes to serious topics such as career and future.

While watching the show, I felt that Lilly was more relatable to me than Miley. Lilly felt like a girl next door. She was the girl doing okay at school and still has not figured out what she wants to be once she grows up. She gives everything to her friendship knowing very well that Hannah may have a future, but Lola may disappear into oblivion. Yet she stays with Hannah and commits to their friendship.

To me, Lilly always stayed with me even after the show got shelved. I felt a connection with Lilly and Lola that still stays with me.

This was such a lovely appreciation of Lilly! I think what made her special was that she wasn’t the celebrity, the superstar, or the person everyone admired, yet she was just as important to Miley’s world. Her friendship with Miley showed that sometimes the best people in our lives are the ones who stand beside us without expecting anything in return. I also loved how you highlighted the contrast between Lilly and Lola because it added such a fun dimension to her character. And honestly, who wouldn’t want a friend like Lilly? Someone who celebrates your success, keeps your secrets, supports your dreams, and still treats you like the same old friend. Some fictional friendships stay with us long after the show ends, and Miley and Lilly’s is definitely one of them! ❤️
