Things breathe, breathe like the sand blaster I yearn to hold.
They ask, "Why?"
I say, "Because I love it."
The love I feel for unveiling the true beauty of what once was a living, breathing creature that no longer roams gives a sense of indescribable ecstasy.
I can see myself scraping off tar from mammoth vertebrae, soaking limestone off an Icthyosaurus jaw bone, or brushing the loose matrix away from a near complete Tyrannosaurus foot.
Going through carefully curated collections and possibly finding something that was overlooked decades ago.
That's the joy I want to bring to this field, the same enthusiasm it brings me.
To unveil something that future generations can admire with such awe, that maybe it'll inspire another 5 year old to want to do the same.
Inspire future paleo-artists to experiment with different theories.
Perhaps inspire future zoologists!
Either way it goes, I know the work of Fossil Preparation brings wonder of the imagination to life, brings out beaming smiles on children's faces.
So when someone asks, "Why?"
I am more than joyous to explain it is one of the way I express my love for what is around me, past and present.
It is my dream career.
When someone asks why you love your job, you

Wow this is so poetic, Things breathe, breathe like the sand blaster I yearn to hold, that opening is incredible. Your line Because I love it is such a simple and powerful answer. The way you described scraping tar from mammoth vertebrae, soaking limestone off an ichthyosaurus jaw, brushing matrix away from a T-rex foot, you make fossil prep sound like pure art and love. And that last thought about unveiling something future generations will admire with awe and inspire another 5 year old, that gave me chills, so beautifully written.
