Writer's block

While reading books or watching movies there would always be a concept called as the writers block. They would show in the media that there is a writer who is unable to come up any material to write about. The writer is assigned with the responsibility to complete the book within a stipulated time period and during that period they have no idea what they are going to write about. I used to think that right of its block is a fictitious idea until I experienced that.

Start my story first let me tell you that I am a blogger. I had been writing blocks for last 2 years. I had been writing more consistently for last 1 year. Now it has become a passion to write something every week.

Two weeks ago it happened. I was supposed to publish my blog in 2 days. I said in front of my laptop. Opened the blank page. My hands taking their position at the keyboard. My eyes glued to the screen. But my mind completely blank. My brain was completely offline. I had no thoughts in my mind. No ideas were flowing through my otherwise over productive brain. I just sad in front of the laptop without typing anything just staring at the screen for 2 hours. The page was still blank.

Then the tension started building. My heart started beating faster. It was a very unusual feeling. I kept thinking about what can I write about. But no Ideas were coming. There was no beginning to what I am supposed to write. Just a blank canvas in front of me, body positioned to act, but brain refusing to even start working. I was feeling confused.

One more hour had gone by. 3 hours of setting in front of the laptop without an outcome. I felt embarrassed at myself at that point. I was known to be a quick thinker and task maker and now I am struggling to write a simple casual blog. I felt ashamed of myself. I started doubting my abilities. In my mind I thought is this the end? Is this where I realise that probably I do not have what it takes to become a writer? Is this where are you should surrender and give up?

I held my head in my hands. After steering at the screen for such a long time my eyes were blurry. Or maybe they were blurry because of the tears that had started gathering. I felt even more embarrassed at that moment. I had become emotional over a simple enability to complete the task. It was embarrassing that I was crying over a blog that I was not able to write.

Then I realised. This is what they call as Writer's block in the media. It happens with everyone. So I am neither the first one nor the last one to experience the writer's block. This thought lifted a lot of weight from my mind. I realised that it is not my Incompetence but just attended you face where my brain needs little more time to come up with the idea. I realised that I do have the potential at the same time the brain also requires little rest.

With that thought I switch off my laptop, grabbed of fresh cup of coffee, sat down by the window, and looked outside, hoping tomorrow would be a better day.

Well expressed. Your realization that the brain sometimes needs rest instead of pressure is an important reminder that creativity cannot always be forced, no matter how motivated we are.
