When It Rains, I Stop Rushing

AnonymousJul 1, 2026526 words

I have noticed one thing about myself. I never remember ordinary Tuesday or random Sunny afternoons full stop but I remember rain almost every important memory in my life some how has the rain standing quietly in the background, make it wanted to be a part of the story too.

The funniest one happened when I was in school. One afternoon at started raining just when The final bill rang. Every one Rush towards the school gate because nobody wanted to get stuck. I was standing under the shade with my bag hug titly waiting for my father to pick me up full stop after almost 30 minutes, I was convinced he had forgotten me. There were were only 3 or 4 students left. I had already imagine the worst things in my head full stop then I saw him running through the rain completely drenched, holding the most useless tiny umbrella I have ever seen. We both some how tried to fit under it, which was honestly impossible full stop by the time we reached home and my mother started in laughing the moment she opened the door. I still don't know why that memory refuses to leave me. Maybe because I realise that day people sometimes come late but it does not mean this top coming.

Rain has a strange way of slowing life down. In India you can almost predict what happens the movement heavy rain stop. Someone once wrote the smell of rain remains even after the rain is gone. I don't know if that's an actual famous quote or no but I like believing it. Some people are like that to. The leave, but something about them stays.

I think rain slows me down in the best possible way.

Nowadays everything feels like a race. College. Marks. Internships. LinkedIn. People my age are announcing achievements every single day and I am genuinely happy for them.... But sometime I close the app and think "Am I doing enough? Maybe yes. Maybe not I don't know.

Then it rains.

Suddenly none of that feels so urgent.

I make myself chai. Sometimes Maggi from feeling little extra full stops I said near the window and just watch people running with bags over their heads like rain is chasing them. It actually funny because 5 minutes later everyone is better anyway. One rainy evening and college my friend and I got stuck near on tiny tea stall because the rain refuse to stop at first we were irritated. Then we order chai. Then another one. We talk for almost 2 hours. But it not even touch our phone much. Looking back, I don't even remember what assignment we were so worried about that day. I only remember the chai tasting extra good because it was raining.

But honestly.....

Every time it rains I meet that child again.

For a few minutes deadline don't exist. My over thinking becomes quietor. The world becomes somehow software. I don't know how to explain it properly but it just feel like whom.

Maybe that's why I will never say I "like" rain.

I think I carry it with me.

Rain brings back a lot of memories. Also it slows down our lives so that we can take time to stop and reflect.
