when I couldn’t decide what to wear

I honestly do not understand how choosing an outfit can take more time than getting ready. Sometimes I have a clear idea of what I want to wear, and everything works out easily. But on other days, I can stand in front of my cupboard for what feels like forever and still decide that I have absolutely nothing to wear.

The funny thing is that this is never actually true. My cupboard is full of clothes. I have T-shirts, jeans, dresses, shirts, and so many things that I have probably forgotten about. But somehow, on the days when I really need to decide quickly, none of them look right.

I started with one outfit that looked good in my head. I wore it and immediately decided I did not like it. Then I changed into another one, but suddenly I did not like the way the jeans looked. After that, I tried a third outfit and realised that I liked the top but not the bottom.

At some point, my room started looking like a clothing shop after a sale. Clothes were on my bed, chair, and floor. Every time I rejected an outfit, I told myself that I would put it back later. Of course, I never did.

The problem is that the more outfits I try, the more confused I become. The first outfit starts looking better again, but I do not want to admit that I wasted all that time for nothing. So I keep trying more clothes even though I am becoming less satisfied with every choice.

Then there is the question of whether the outfit is too casual, too dressed up, too boring, or somehow both at the same time. Suddenly, I am thinking about things that I would normally never notice.

The worst part is when I finally choose something and then spend the rest of the day wondering if another outfit would have been better.

I think getting ready can sometimes become more stressful than it needs to be. We have so many options that choosing one feels impossible. Sometimes I look at old pictures and realise that I have worn almost the same type of outfit many times before without thinking about it. But when I have time to overthink, everything becomes complicated.

Eventually, I chose something simple.

Honestly, it was probably close to the first outfit I had tried. After changing several times and making a complete mess of my room, I ended up wearing something that I could have chosen in five minutes.

By then, I was already tired, even though I had not even left the house.

Still, once I finally went out, I stopped thinking about my clothes. Nobody was paying as much attention to my outfit as I thought they would. Everyone was busy with their own lives and probably worrying about something else.

That is something I should remember the next time I cannot decide what to wear. The world will not stop because I choose the wrong pair of jeans.

Maybe I just need to pick something comfortable, stop looking in the mirror every five minutes, and leave.

Of course, I will probably forget this the next time I stand in front of my cupboard.

And once again, I will probably say the same thing: “I have nothing to wear.”
