What's your soul city?
I have always wondered why I feel this way about a city I have never even lived in. Maybe it is because New York feels like more than just a place; it feels like a dream that somehow became a part of me. Every time I see pictures of its streets, its skyline, or even a random café tucked away in Manhattan, I feel an unexplainable sense of familiarity, as if I already belong there.
People often associate New York with chaos, endless work, and sleepless nights, but when I think of it, I see something completely different. I see a city that never asks you to fit into a mold. A city where everyone is chasing something they believe in, where people from different cultures, backgrounds, and stories somehow coexist. There is something incredibly beautiful about that. It makes me feel like I would never have to hide any part of myself there.
Whenever I think about my future, New York is always a part of it. I imagine waking up in my apartment, grabbing a coffee from the café downstairs, walking through streets that are always alive, and ending my day watching the sunset from Central Park or taking a quiet walk when the city lights begin to shine. It is not the luxury that attracts me; it is the life. It is the feeling of being surrounded by people who dream just as fearlessly as I hope to.
I could say that my soul city would be NYC, undoubtedly. I do not see myself settling down in any other city than this one, not because of its glam and sparkle but because of its charm of city lights, luxurious living, and the passion and determination that people have in them for living there and surviving it. To me, New York is not just a destination on a map; it is the place where I hope to become the version of myself I have always dreamed of being. Maybe that is why it has stayed in my heart for years, and maybe that is why I know it always will.
One thing I admire about New York is the resilience it teaches. It is a city that does not promise an easy life, yet people still choose it every single day. There is something inspiring about waking up every morning in a place where everyone is working towards something bigger than themselves. Whether it is an artist chasing recognition, a student pursuing higher education, an entrepreneur building a company, or someone simply trying to make a better life, the city is filled with ambition. I think being surrounded by that kind of energy would constantly motivate me to become a better version of myself.
I know New York is far from perfect. It is expensive, crowded, noisy, and at times overwhelming. It has its flaws, just like every other city in the world. But I think loving a place is not about believing it is perfect; it is about accepting its imperfections and still feeling drawn towards it. Strangely enough, its imperfections are part of what makes it so beautiful to me. They make the city feel alive, authentic, and full of character.
I never thought about what my soul City could be. you have given me a food for a thought. besides you have described your soul City beautiful.
