We Are Becoming Experts Of Leaving Things For "One Day"
I don't know when "one day" became my favourite day of the week.
One day I will learn that language.
One day I will read that book sitting on my shelf.
One day I will call that friend I haven't spoken to in month.
One day I will start wakeing up early.
The strange thing is, "one day" never argues with us. It quietly accepts every dream, every plan every promise we postpone. It never complaints that we have been using it as an excuse for years.
A few weeks ago, while cleaning my room, I found a notebook from school. On one page I had written a list title "Things I will do when I grow up" I smile while reading it. Some dreams were still alive. Others had quietly disappeared without me when not asking. What surprised me was not that I had changed. It was realising how many things I had postponed because I thought there would always be more time.
There is something comforting about believing life will wait for us.
But it rarely does.
The cafe we wanted to visit closes down. Friends move to different cities. Grandparents bro older. Favourite teachers retire. The song We love the slowly becomes "that old song". None of these things have an overnight. They happen so slowly that we don't notice under one day we look back and wonder where the time went.
I think we understandestimate how quickly ordinary moments become memories.
I used to believe memories were created during birthdays, vacations or big celebrations. Now I think there born on random Tuesdays. A conversation. Laughing so hard let the next table stare full stop sitting by the window during heavy rain. Working home without checking the time.
Those are the moments are remember most.
Theere is a quote by John Lennon that says, "life is what happens while you are busy making other plans" I understood that quit only recently.
We are always preparing for life. Studying for the next exam. Working for the next promotion will stop saving for the next week. Waiting for the right time. Sometimes I wonder we are so busy preparing to live that is forget to actually do it. I am not saying goals don't matter they do. Dreams deserve effort. Ambition is beautiful. But maybe we don't have to postpone joy and delivery thing is perfect. Maybe we can buy a verselves flowers without a reason system maybe we can wash the sunset even when assignments are waiting. Maybe we can call someone just to hear their voice instead of waiting for a special. Maybe life is not asking us to do extra ordinary things everyday full from maybe it's asking us to stop treating today like a rehearsal for tomorrow. I still cat myself saying "I will do it later" old habits for a second and ask the different.
Why not today?
Sometimes I still wait. Sometimes I don't. And on the days I choose today instead of one day life always feels a little polar. For haps that support secret nobody tells us. The future is built from ordinary days. Not someday. Today.
true
a mentor once told me someday is today, today means now. i am still struggling to implement that
I can reflect my thoughts on your writing...I believe that we can improve when we change ONE DAY to TODAY
