Watching it again

People often ask why anyone would watch the same movie or TV show more than once. After all, we already know the ending, the plot and even some of the dialogues. Would not be more exciting to watch something new? Surprisingly, I still find myself going back to the same favourites again and again.

Sometime, similarity feels like quiet conversation with an old friend.

It usually Happens when I cannot decide what to watch. I spent several minutes scrolling through different streaming platforms, reading descriptions, and watching trailers, but nothing feels interesting. Instead of facing more searching, end up, choosing a movie or series that I have already seen. Somehow, it also feels like the right decision.

There is something comforting about watching a familiar story. I already know what is going to happen, so I do not have to pay attention every second. I can simply relax and enjoy the experience without wondering how everything will end. It feels like watching and more like spending time with something familiar.

The interesting thing is that I always notice something new. It might be small detail in the background, dialogue. I never pay attention to before or a scene that suddenly feels something different. Even though The movie has not changed, my perspective. As I grow older, I understand certain moments differently than I did the first time.

Some movies also become connected to specific memories. A particular film might remind me of summer holidays, family movie night or a weekend when I had nothing else to do. Watching it again, it is not just about the story. It is about remembering how I felt during that time in my life. I also think familiar movies are comforting because they are predictable. Life is full of surprises, but a favourite movie always stays the same. The joke still make me laugh, the emotional scenes still feel meaningful and the ending never changes. There is something reassuring about knowing exactly what to expect.

Ofcourse, I still enjoy new music and shows. There are exciting in exploring different stories and characters. But sometime, after a long or tiring day, I do not want surprises. I want something that feels comfortable and a familiar movie does exactly that.

It’s funny, how certain scenes become so familiar that I can almost say the dialogues before the characters do. Instead of making the experience boring, it is somehow it me more enjoyable. It feels like revisiting an old friend after a long time.

Look, I’m back, I have realised that watching something is not really about the ending. It is about the feeling it gives me. Some stories make me laugh, other make me think of you simply make me feel at home. That feeling is worth experiencing more than once.

Maybe that is why I keep pressing the play button of the same movie again and again. Sometimes, the best choice is not something new. Sometimes, happiness is simply spending two hours with a story that already feels like an old friend.

I do this. I rewatch films and web series. Sometimes to revisit the memories and sometimes to analyse.

I personally relate to this so much. Rewatching isn’t about the ending anymore , it’s about revisiting a feeling , a memory or a version of ourselves.

This is so true. Every time I sit down to watch something, I always open that one show or that one movie that I have watched a million times and have memorised by heart, despite the n number of new movies in my list. There is something comforting in finding the same plot play over and over again, perhaps the knowledge that everything ends well.
