Waiting for the delivery

There is something strangely exciting about ordering something online. It does not even have to be expensive. It could be a book, phone case, skin, care, clothes or something as simple as pack of pens. The moment I placed the order, I immediately start waiting for it to arrive. I always tell myself that I am being patient, but honestly, I am already imagining the package at my door.

The waiting begins with the tracking page. I probably check if it more often than I need to. Even though I know the package cannot travel across the country in just a few hours, I still open the app to see if the status has changed. Seeing the words like “shipped”, “out of delivery” or “arriving today” , somehow makes me more excited. It feels a little Silly, but I cannot help it.

The best day is always a delivery day. I find myself listening for the doorbell or checking my phone more often than usual. Every notification makes me wonder if it is the delivery update. Sometimes, I even look outside the window to see if the delivery person has arrived.

The funniest part is that I become impatient even when I know the delivery is on time. If it says the package will arrive by evening, still hope it shows up in the morning. I think part of the excitement comes from the fact that I already know what I ordered, but I still want the surprise of holding it in my hands. It is a small kind of happiness, but it feels real.

When the package finally arise, opening it becomes an experience of its own. Icarefully remove the tape, open the box and take out the item as if I have never seen it before. Even though I looked at its picture online several times before buying it, seeing it in person feels completely different.

Sometime the package is almost as expecting as the product itself. Bubble wrap, neatly folded paper, small, thank you card or even tiny sticker. Make the experience feels a little more special. I know they are small things, but they somehow add to the excitement. Personally, I think that little extra efforts makes the wall order feel more thoughtful, even if just something small.

Ofcourse, not every order is perfect. Something looks different from the picture or does not meet my expectations. It can be disappointing, but thankfully, most deliveries bring the same excitement I felt when I click the “place order” button.

Online shopping has made waiting a little different. Years ago, people had to visit stores to buy almost everything. Today, we can order something in just a few minutes and patiently watch a travel until it reach our doors. It is amazing. How technology has turned an ordinary purchase into something that feels like receiving a small gift. I think the excitement is not only about the product. It is also about having something to look forward to. In the middle of an ordinary week, a simple package arrive at the door can make the day feel a little more interesting. For me, it is one of the small moments that can change my mood in a good way.

No matter how many online orders I place, that feeling never really changes. I still refresh the tracking page, wait for the delivery notification and smile when the packages finally arrives. It may be a small moment, but it always bring a little excitement to an ordinary day.
