The weight of truth

AnonymousJun 14, 2026526 words

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if every lie we told would become a physical object. Not just the big lord. The tiny ones too. All of them . The I am Fine when we are not and I am in my way when we are at home. The It does not bother me when it keeps us awake at night.

Imagine every lie appeared as a stone in a backpack that only we can carry. Nobody would see it and nobody else can feel it's weight.

Only you. At first it will not be a problem. A few pebbles here and there. It will be easy to carry and easy to ignore. Most probably the people would countinue exactly as they always have. But years passed and pebbles becomes rocks and rocks become builders.

One day you will wake up feeling exhausted and wondering why you are always exhausted. Then you remember the backpack. The lies and the truthes you swallowrd and the apologies you never have and the feeling you never admitted. And suddenly the weight makes sense.

I think a lot of us love like that already. Not because we are dishonest people but bc honesty is frightening and it requires vulnerability and it requires us to accept the possibility of rejection. It requires us to stop hiding behind the carefully constructed version of ourselves.

Sometimes it is easier to pretend and to smile and to nos and to say that everything is okay even when parts of us are quietly breaking.

The strange truth is that through has a different kind of weight. It can be terrifying in the moment but it will not stay heavy forever.

The truth is like setting down a suitcase you have been carrying for miles. First your arms ache and then you realise how much energy you were spending just holding it.

I think about all the things people wish they could say. The friend who wants to admit they have been struggling. Annf the parents who want to apologise. The student who feels lost and the employee who feels burned our. The person who misses someone they have spent years pretending to forget.

Entire worldd of truth sit behind people's teeth every day and it is waiting not bc they don't matter but because speaking them feels impossible.

Yet whenever someone finnaly does tell the truth something truly remarkable happens. The world rarely ends. The sky don't fall and then the life continues. And often other people responds with truths of their own.

That is the funny thing about honesty. It is contagious and one honest conversation can create and encourage another and another unfull suddenly you still pretending so much.

If every lie became a stone then we all will walk a little differently. We would become more careful about what we carry. We will became more intentional about what we hide and maybe we will discover that some burderd were never meant to be carried at all bc life is already heavy enough. And that there is no reason to spend it hailung around weights that could have been set down years ago.
