The spiral of brain and reality
Sometimes some days unemployment feels less like a situation and more like a shadow. It follows you everywhere. It sits beside you at breakfast when your parents ask if there are any updates. It started back at you from the mirror when you wake up later than you intended because there is nowhere for you to be urgently need to be.
It waits patiently in the silenced between sending an application and recieving yet another rejection mail. Nobody really prepared you for this part. Drowing up the story always seemed simple. Study hard and get good grades and earn a degree and find a job and build a life.
The path looked straight when viewed from a distance. But standing here now it feels more like a maze. Everyday begins with hope. You open job portals. Update your resume for a hundred times. Write cover letter that somehow need to sound enthusiastic even when you are exhausted.
You apply and apply and apply. And then you wait. Sometimes there is no response at all. Sometimes there are interviewd that leave you hopeful only for the silence afterwards to say everything and nothing.eanwhile the life keeps moving and bills do not stop arriving because you are unemployed.
Responsibility donnot pause when you search for work. They electricity files still needs to be paid. Groceries still need to be bought and rent still waits tillt he end of the month. Parents grow older and younger siblings look up to you.
The expections remain even when oppertunity seems scarce. This is perhaps the hardest part. Not the rejection itself. The feeling of standing still while the world continues running. Friends announce promotions and formor classmates share photographs from new offices. LinkedIn because a parade of success stories. And although you are genuinely happy for them, a small voice inside whispers question that you wish would disappear
What am I doing wrong?
Why is everyone moving forward but me?
When will it be my turn?
Those questions can become heavy of you carry them long enough. But unemployment is not laziness.
It is not failure. It is not proof that you are incapable. Sometimes it is simply a difficult season in a difficult economy. Sometimes there are hundreds of applicants competing for the same oppertunity. Sometimes talent alone is not enough mv
Timing and circumstances and luck and connection often play a bigger role than people like to admit. Still every morning countless people get up and try again.
The truth is many people carrying the label of unemployment are working harder than anyone realizes. They are fighting invisible battels everyday. Battle against doubt and against fear and against disappointment and against temptation to give up.
Your current situation is not your identity. Your worth is not measured by a job title. The responsibility may be growing and the pressure may feel unbearable at times.
Like the old saying goes ...
