The Sky Changed Its Mind

The Sky Changed Its Mind

For the past few days, the weather has been behaving like it cannot make up its mind.

I wake up in the morning and the first thing I notice is how pleasant everything feels. The sky is soft, the air is cool and there is just enough sunlight to make the morning feel fresh without being too warm. It is the kind of weather that makes you want to get out of bed a little earlier , open the curtains and believe that the day might actually be productive.

And then, by around two in the afternoon, everything changes.

The cloud slowly become darker, the sky starts looking almost black, the light disappears and before you know it, it starts raining. It has been happening for two or three days now. Every morning feels like a promise of a beautiful day, and every afternoon seems determined to turn into something else.

For the first two days, I actually love it.

There is something comforting about rain when you are at home. You can hear it outside, the temperature drops and suddenly everyone seems to slow down. My mother even made pakoras for us one afternoon. She normally would not just randomly de use to make them. But somehow rainy whether has its own rules. You do not need to be hungry to want pakoras when it is raining.

We sat around eating them while listening to the rain, and for a moment everything felt perfect.

But on the third day, when I woke up and saw the same dark clouds again, I had a strange reaction.

I wanted the sun back.

It made me realise how quickly we can get accustomed to something, after 2 days of grey skies, I had almost started accepting them as normal. The sunlight that I usually take for granted suddenly felt like something I was missing.

I do love gloomy weather, I love the quietness of it, the smell after rain, the cooler air and the way everything outside looks slightly different. But I think gloomy weather is enjoyable only up to a point.

After that , it starts giving me a strange sadness.

Maybe weather is less about weather itself and more about what we are doing while experiencing it . A rainy afternoon with the right people, hot tea and a plate of pakoras can feel like a memory you want to keep forever. The exact same rain, when you are alone, unproductive and stuck in your own thoughts, can feel completely different.

The same is true for pleasant weather.

A beautiful sunny day can pass without meaning anything if you spend the entire day doing nothing. Sometimes I look outside at a perfect sky and think that this weather deserved better.

Maybe that is why I want the sun back now.

Not suddenly because I dislike clouds , but because I have realised that I miss the feeling of a bright day. I miss seeing the sky change colour.

When the weather keeps changing its mind, you

There is really something comforting about the way you captured the unpredictablility of weather, almost feels like a reflection of life itself.
