The other side of the gossip
Everyone in the office warned me about Meera calling her arrogant and unapproachable. Today when my presentation file 🗃️ disappeared minutes before the metting. She stayed back to help me recover it. We ended up laughing over terrible office coffee while waiting for the files to load. She confessed that she rarely joined lunch because nobody seemed interested in knowing her. I remembered every time I had avoided her in the corridor. I felt embarrassed, but also strangely happy. On my way home. I wondered how many good people I had missed simply because someone else had decided who they were.

In my experience literally the drama free people are called arrogant. They do not speak much does not mean they think they are better than everyone else. They just want to keep to themselves and that is completely fine. I am glad you got to see how kind Meera is in reality.
This is such an important reminder. Everyone in the office warned you about Meera calling her arrogant and unapproachable, but when your file disappeared minutes before the meeting she was the one who stayed back to help you recover it. It really shows how quickly we believe gossip without actually knowing someone. Sometimes people seem distant just because no one really tried to know them, like she rarely joined lunch because nobody seemed interested. Loved this perspective shift.
This is where people get it wrong. Someone who speaks less or does not prefer being with the cool crowd, automatically is labelled as "rude" or "difficult to work with". Nobody tries ti understand the boundaries. In the later part of my career I too was called 'difficult to work with' because I would decline to go for lunch that would consume my whole hour. In corporate we should experience and make our own opinions instead of following someone else's judgement.
