The last generation to remember

Sometimes I wonder if we are the last generation to rember what it feels to be unreachable.

Before our pockets buzzed every few minutes

Before algorithms decides what we should watch and read and think about. Before every quiet moment become an oppertunity to scroll.

I remember when childhood was not measured in screen time but in sunsets and the warm breeze. We played outside entil the sky changes orange and someone called our names from the front door. We didn't carry phone...we carried scraped knees and dusty shoes and stories that only existed in our memories became no one stopped to record them.

Back then getting lost was a part of adventure. We followr roads simply to see where it leads them. We memorized the phone numbers of our closest friends because we can. We waited for our favourite TV show to air Instead of watching and entires season in one night. If you wanted to know something you sermafch through the books or asked someone wiser. Answer took time and perhaps that made us value them more.

Then technology changes everything. Today we carry the world's knowledge in our palm. We can speak to anyone across the globe in seconds and learn almost any skill for free and navigate unfamiliar cities without the fear of getting lost. Technology has saved lives and connected families and opened door that previous generation could only dream of. It has given us incredible oppertunity.

But every gain came with a cost. We no longer wait..we refresh. We no longer wonder...we search. We no longer sit in silence...we reach to our phones.

Algorithms has become experts at keeping our attention and somewhere along the way we forgot how to give that attention freely to the people and moments around us. We document sunsets instead of watching them. We photograph meals before tasting them. We know what strangers across the world are doing and yet sometimes forget to ask people sitting beside us how are they feeling.

Maybe nostalgia jas a way for making the past seem brighter than it was. E ery generation beleives it's childhood was special. But I don't think what I miss the the lack of technology. I miss the peace and patience. The freedom to be bored without immediately filling the silence. Some of my best memories were created because there was nothing to do.

I will make sure that technical never replaced the simple joys that makes us feel alive.

Made me remember when my friends and I used to play kho kho in our society and try to guess when it was ‘7pm’ so that we could go back home on time! We refused to carry watches so that nothing distracted us haha
