The Kind of Happiness That Comes With Rain
Mood status : 🌧️Feeling nostalgic
Rain has always felt different to me. It isn’t just another kind of weather—it changes the mood of everything around us.On some days, it makes me want to do absolutely nothing except sit near the window, wrap myself in a soft blanket, and hold a hot cup of chai. Somehow, chai tastes better when it’s raining. Pair it with crispy pakoras, and suddenly an ordinary evening feels complete. Maybe it’s because the warmth of the food feels comforting against the cool breeze, or maybe rain simply has a way of making small things feel special.
One of my favorite things about rain is its sound. People listen to calming playlists before sleeping, but honestly, I don’t think anything can beat the sound of raindrops. The gentle tapping on the roof, the steady rhythm against the windows, and the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance feel like nature is humming a lullaby. It’s not loud or demanding; it’s peaceful. Whenever it rains, my thoughts seem to slow down too. For a little while, nothing feels rushed It’s almost as if the world agrees to take a break together.
Even the things that usually annoy me somehow become beautiful during the rain. Take traffic, for example. On a regular day, long lines of vehicles, honking, and crowded roads feel exhausting. But when it’s raining, the same traffic looks strangely alive. The reflections of headlights on wet roads, people sharing umbrellas, bikes carefully making their way through puddles, and tiny tea stalls crowded with people escaping the rain—it all creates a picture that feels warm instead of frustrating. There’s something comforting about watching the world continue despite the rain, almost like everyone is sharing the same little moment.
Rain also brings out the best in nature. The trees look greener, flowers seem brighter, and the air carries that beautiful smell of wet soil that instantly reminds me of home.Everything feels cleaner, fresher, and more alive. It’s amazing how a few hours of rain can completely change the way the world looks. Even the sky, covered in grey clouds, has its own kind of beauty. It doesn’t always have to be sunny for the world to look beautiful.
Whenever it rains, I also find myself thinking about childhood. Back then, rain wasn’t something we complained about because of wet shoes or delayed plans It was something we waited for. The moment it started pouring, we’d rush outside without caring about getting soaked. We’d jump into puddles, race paper boats through tiny streams of water, laugh over absolutely nothing, and stay outside until someone called us back home. We’d return dripping wet, get scolded for making a mess, and then sit with dry clothes and something warm to eat. At the time, those days felt ordinary. Looking back now, they were some of the happiest memories without us even realizing it.
I think that’s why I’ll always have a soft spot for rainy days. They remind me that happiness doesn’t always come from big moments. Sometimes it’s hidden in the smell of fresh rain, a cup of chai shared with someone you love, the sound of raindrops outside your window, or memories that quietly return with every monsoon. Rain has a beautiful way of slowing life down just enough for us to notice the little things we often miss.
Maybe that’s why, no matter how old I get, I’ll never stop looking forward to the rain.
Rainy days: comfort and nostalgia, or just an inconvenience?
