The hard reality of being Born Poor
The thought that I dint like saying out loud
Soemtimes I think about how much of a person's life is decides even before they are old enough to understand what life is. Before they gave dreams and before they know what money is. Before they understand why their parents tells Maybe later. You are simply born.
And suddenly the family you are bron with decides what kind of problems that you will face when you grow up.
I dont think that a child should have to be born into poverty.
Not because poverty forces children to understand things that they are never supposed to worry about. When you grow up without enough money you will feel that even ordinary things can become a burden and complicated.
Education is no longer just studying. It becomes fees and books and transportation and equipment and whether your family can afford to support your plans. Healthcare becomes something you can delay. Oppertunities becomes something you calculate. Dreams become something you have to justify.
You learn not to ask for too much. If you want to order some food to eat of your wish, your parents who are hardworking to give you a better future that is not full of mental calculations to check if they can afford will be the first image to your mind and at the same time you will think of the things you will be doing after saving that money for the future emergency.
You learn to say It's okay, I don't need it even when you actually do. And slowly you become aware the cost of your existence.
You are your parents working. You notice the bills. You understand the sacrifices. You realise that every decision affects someoneore than just you. A child should not have guilty for needing things.
People often say that everyone have the same twenty four hours. They don't. One person may spend all those hours studyong in a quiet room with food and electricity and a laptop with financial support.
Another may spend the same hours working about money and helping their family and travelling ling distance, working or trying to study while exhausted.
The both are placed in the same competition. The world looks ta the results and falls it merit. Somewhere it is. But the starting lines are never the same. Some people are born with safety nets. Others are born knowing there is nothing underneath them if they fall.
Perhaps the hardest part is watching your parents grow old ehril they are still struggling. You see the sacrifices they make. The things that they never brought. The oppertunity theh never had. And somewhere inside you, a responsibility begins growing before you are ready for it.
You are not longer only trying to build a life for you. You are thinking about bills and debts and your familys future. The fear of not earning enough. The fear of failing not only you but everyone who is dependent on you. But I would have preferred not to learn resilience so early. I could not afford to lose.
I could not afford time to buys things or od things that makes me happy become the cloak is ticking and the race is happening.
Philosophy exits when there are limited resources. It was painful to read but it is the reality.
This is such a positive message. I appreciate the honesty and the hope behind your words. Keep believing in yourself and taking one step forward every day.
This was a difficult but important read. I appreciate that you didn’t romanticize poverty or reduce it to a motivational story. The way you described how circumstances shape a child’s life before they even have choices really makes the reader stop and reflect on something many people overlook.
