The gift

A couple of days ago I had watched a video clip featuring Paris Hilton and her mother Kathy Hilton. The clip short that Kathi had gifted a wooden trey from a reputed brand to Carter Rheum, Paris's husband. She was upset because the trey what kept in the kitchen. According to her it did not belong in the kitchen but rather it should have been at a vacation spot. She was upset because according to her the gift was not appropriately used. Now why did I remember this? Because something similar happened to me.

I had received a fancy porcelain plate from my aunt. It was a beautiful plate with white base and pattern in dark blue. It had very intricate pattern on it. When she had gifted me this plate I was delighted simply because believe is my favourite colour. Another reason was that I really like the fine intricate pattern on that plate. I told her very specifically that how much I loved this gift and what I had light about it.

A few days earlier my aunt visited us. She had come in the morning when I was having my breakfast. While I gave her snacks I came back where she was sitting with my breakfast plate, the same plate that she had gifted me. She looked at me and the plate in horror as if she had seen a ghost.

" What is that?" My aunt asked me with the same expression.

" My breakfast in the plate that you had gifted. I use it everyday for breakfast. Designated plate for breakfast and now this is my go to plate," I said proudly thinking that she would be pleased to see that her gift is getting used everyday. I thought she would be delighted to hear about how useful her gift has been to me. But it was anything but that.

"I can see that you are using the plate that I had gifted. Why have you kept fruits in it?" Her question baffled me.

"Because mostly I eat fruits for breakfast. That is what works the best for me," I respondent but I was slightly confused with her line of questions.

" Are you keeping fruits in this plate?" Another bizzare question.

" Yes, if it how it is not supposed to be? Does the plate react with fruits? Is there any has a wet that I should know about?" I was little worried now. What if the plate was reactive to fruits and I was consuming something harmful.

"No I do not believe it will be harmful. But I did not imagine fruits in this beautiful plate. It is meant for something more sophisticated and fancy. Like a high end desert or something. But definitely I never thought you would use it for consuming fruits," this was completely diabolical. My aunt was expecting me to use the plate that she had gifted for exclusively consuming fancy deserts. Not only that she was upset because I had not been using it for desert but consuming something that she considered to be off the caliber lesser than something fancy.

At that moment I love it off remembering how this resembled Kathy Hilton's reaction. People's expectations are really hilarious.

Sometimes we expect someone to use the gift we have in some eat but in reality they may be using it on some other things...The wrong is not in both the sides

Your aunt’s reaction to the breakfast plate reminded me how sometimes we attach our own imagined value to gifts. But the fact that you used it every day shows how much you truly loved it.
