The Friend I Slowly Lost

There wasn't one big fight.
No dramatic goodbye.
No final message saying, “We're not friends anymore.”
We just slowly became strangers.
At first, our replies got shorter. Then the calls became less frequent. We stopped telling each other little things—the random thoughts, stupid jokes, things that happened during the day.
I kept thinking we'd go back to normal.
We didn't.
Sometimes I still see something funny and instinctively think, “I should send this to them.”
Then I remember.
And that's the weirdest part of losing someone.
You don't always miss them loudly.
Sometimes you miss them in tiny moments.
A song.
An old photo.
A joke nobody else would understand.
A place we used to go.
A phrase they always said that suddenly appears in someone else's conversation.
You realize how many parts of your daily life quietly carried them, even after they were gone.
I don't know when our friendship ended.
Maybe it happened slowly, in all the moments we chose not to reach out.
Maybe we both noticed and were too afraid, too tired, or too proud to say anything.
Maybe that's why it still feels unfinished.
There was no clear ending, so a small part of me still wonders if we could find our way back to each other someday.
But sometimes people can care about each other and still grow in different directions.
Sometimes distance isn't caused by anger or betrayal.
Sometimes life simply changes, and the people who once felt permanent become memories we carry quietly.
Do you think some friendships are meant to end without anyone being wrong?
yes, i feel some are meant to end. and really later in life you gradually realise they were only a stop not the the journey
yeahh true
Some friendships don’t end with a fight; they just slowly fade into silence. And somehow, losing you little by little hurt more than losing you all at once. 🥀
