The forgotten birthday

Anonymous6 days agoWrite Freely105 words

Nobody at work remembered my birthday today. I pretended it didn't matter, laughing along when everyone complained about Money deadlines. By lunchtime however I had checked my phone 📱 so often that I felt ridiculous. Then Ravi our office cleaner, placed a small chocolate 🍫 on my desk. He had overhead me mentioning my birthday last week."Don't work too hard today, " he said before returning to his duties. I nearly cried over a chocolate worth twenty rupees. I realised I had been waiting for recognition from people who barely noticed me. While overlooking the kindness of someone whose name I had only recently learned

First of all, many happy returns of the day 🥳 It stings when people whom we call coworkers forget the basic duty of remembering birthdays. That is what tells us that they are not our friends. Ravi who was not in your immediate circle still managed to wish you quietly. People like him are gems.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures come from the people we least expect, reminding us that kindness matters more than grand celebrations. ❤️🍫
