The difference between missing someone and missing a time in my life.
There was a time when I thought i missed certain people very deely. Where i looked at old photos or read old chats, i felt emotional. I believed that what i wanted was for those people to come back into my life. But as i have grown, i have started to understand something different. Maybe i do not pnly missed the people, maybe i miss the time when they were part of my life. Some chapters of life have a feeling that is difficult to describe. My first year of college is one of them. Everything was new. Every day felt like a new experience. I was meeting new people, learning, new things, and slowly becoming more independent. There was excitement, nervousness, happiness, and even confusion. Looking back now I realise I miss that phase more than anything else.
Of course, the people from the time are part of those memories. They made those moments feel complete. But if I think honestly, I know that even if all these people came back today, life would not be the same. We have all changed. We have different priorities, different routines and different version of ourselves. Time has moved forward and so have we. The realisation help me understand the difference between missing someone and missing a period of life. Sometime I am not really wishing for a person to return. I am wishing to feel the way I felt during that chapter. I miss excitement of new beginnings, simple happiness, the unexpected conversation, and the version of myself who was experiencing everything for the first time.
I have also learnt that memories become more beautiful with time. We often remember the good moment more clearly than the difficult ones. Every chapter has it own challenges, but when we look back our mind naturally hold on the laughter, the small adventures and the people who made those days meaningful. That is why the past sometime feel more perfect then it actually was. This thought was given me peace. It reminds me that I do not have to hold on to people who are no longer part of my life. I can appreciate the memories without expecting them to return. Those moments helped shape me, but they do not have to define my future.
At the same time, it makes me value the present more. One day, today’s ordinary moment may also become memories that I will miss. The conversation I have now, the people who are part of my life today and even the simple routine that I sometimes complain about may become the moments I look back on with a smile. That makes me want to be more present instead of always living in the past. I think growing up slowly learning to understand these feelings.
Missing someone is natural, but sometime what we truly miss is a chapter of our own life.
I cannot go back to those days, and I do not need to. I can carry the memories with gratitude, accept that people in life change and continue creating new memories that will one day become beautiful memories too.
not the same person anymore
wish we could go back in those moments and relived
So true. Often we miss the time that we had spent. We become sad because we cannot bring that time back. I feel this during the rrunions. We are talking our the memories but the same people cannot create the same memories again.
