The Day I Went Somewhere Without a Plan
Most of the time, I like knowing where I am going and what I am supposed to do. I do not need every minute of my day to be planned, but I usually have some idea. If I am going out, I know where I am going. If I am meeting someone, I know the plan. But recently, I went out without really knowing what I was going to do, and it was actually more enjoyable than I expected.
It started very normally. I was at home and feeling a little bored. I did not want to sit in my room for the whole day, but I also did not have any specific place I wanted to visit. I kept thinking about where I should go, but nothing seemed interesting enough to make an actual plan.
So, after spending more time thinking about it than necessary, I decided to simply leave.
I got ready, took my phone and my bag, and went outside. I did not have a destination in mind. At first, that felt strange. I kept thinking that I should probably decide where I was going. But then I realised that I did not actually need to know.
I just started walking.
I noticed things that I would normally ignore when I am rushing somewhere. I looked at different shops, watched people walking past me, and noticed places I had seen many times without really paying attention. Usually, I am either going somewhere specific or trying to get home, so I rarely take the time to simply look around.
After walking for a while, I decided to get something to eat. I had not planned it, but I saw a place that looked good, so I went inside. I sat there for some time, ate slowly, and looked around.
It was a small thing, but it felt nice not having to hurry.
After that, I continued walking. I visited a few shops without planning to buy anything. I looked at things, walked out of places, and changed my mind without feeling like I was wasting time.
I think that was the best part of the whole day. There was no schedule. Nobody was waiting for me. I did not have to be somewhere by a particular time. I could stay somewhere if I liked it or leave whenever I wanted.
Of course, I still checked my phone sometimes. I am not suddenly someone who can leave it untouched for hours. But I was not constantly checking the time, which was unusual for me.
At some point, I found myself sitting somewhere and thinking about how different the day would have been if I had stayed home. I probably would have spent hours switching between my phone and other things, complaining that I was bored.
Instead, I had simply gone out without knowing what would happen.
Nothing extraordinary happened that day. I did not have a life-changing experience, meet someone interesting, or discover a secret place. It was just a normal day with a few ordinary moments.
But somehow, that was enough.
I think we sometimes put too much pressure on ourselves to have a perfect plan. We think every outing needs to be exciting or useful. But sometimes it is okay to go somewhere without a reason.
Maybe not knowing exactly what will happen is part of the experience.
By the time I returned home, I was tired but happy. I had not completed anything important, but I did not feel like I had wasted the day either.
Sometimes, you just need to leave the house and see where the day takes you.
