The coffee break that saved my day
Today was one of these days where my laptop seemed offended by my existence. Emails arrived faster than I could answer them, meetings multiplied like unpaid bills, and every task became urgent at exactly the same time. By three o'clock, even opening. Excel felt like an act of emotional violence.
Then someone asked the message st beautiful question knows to office workers "coffee?" Suddenly, six exhausted adults developed the coordination of a military operation. Chairs rolled back laptops stayed unlocked, and every one escaped toward the pantry. Nobody said we needed a break. We simply understood. Honestly caffeine has its own emergency communication system.
Our coffee machine made its auspicious noiscs, sounds less like equipment and more like an old scooter refusing to start. Someone complaines about the milk being finished. Someone else discovered the sugarvjar was empty. We still stood there negotiating resources like delegates at an international summit, except the crisis was coffee.
When my cup finally arrived. I held it like it contained the meaning of life. The first sip was almost religious. It was hot, slightly bitter and nowhere near good coffee by professional standards. I didnt care. Afterveight hours of emails, deadlines, and meetings that first taste felt ridiculously luxurious.
For ten minutes nobody discussed productivity. We discussed someone's terrible parking, manager's
calendar, weekend plans and why office biscuits, taste better during breaks . Someone checked their phone and announced they had missed three messages. Everyone agreed that was tomorrow's problem. Then someone laughed loudly, turning the pantry into our comedy club.
The coffee itself probably wasn't doing most of the work. The break was. We had stepped away from screens, stopped staring at spreadsheets, and remembered that the people beside us were actual humans around us. A paper cup and fifteen minutes can sometimes accomplish what twelve pointless motivational emails cannot.
Eventually, we returned to our desks pretending to be productive again. My inbox had not magically disappeared. The deadline was there . The spreadsheet was still ugly anyway. My manager still wanted the report before five. Nothing about my workload had changed, yet somehow I felt less betrayed by existence, Enough.
By the time I reached the task. I could still taste the coffee on my tongues. It was thing, almost embarrassingly ordinary, but after that day, it felt worth remembering. Maybe survival looks less dramatic than we imagine. Sometimes it is just cup, jokes, vand fifteen minutes of peace.
And sometimes just like that, a single coffess is enough to make things light and worth doing it( may be not worth doing it cause nothing is worth my tiredness these days) but making it better... sometimes that cup of cofees could be replaced by a power nap or a happy conversation with loved ones or sometimes for me, clearing a bug. Soemtimes I watch a movie or read a fanfiction that gives me the boost.
And sometimes it is just the perspective. All we need it something that gives our spirit back and positive vibes back.
When your day feels overwhelming and hopeless, you
Your vote is final.

Being a freelancer this is what I miss the most. While working in an office, coffee was not a break, it was ritual to relax and refresh. The silly discussions over a cup of coffee are what I miss the most.
