The beauty of mathematics
I used to think liking mathematics meant enjoying calculations. Now I think I like something stranger the moment a messy problem suddenly becomes clear. There is something satisfying about sitting with a notebook, crossing out wrong answers, and finding the pattern hiding underneath, somehow, numbers somehow make confusion feel organized.
What I enjoy most is that mathematics rarely accepts "because I said so". If anything answe is correct, there is usually a reason behind it. During college problems. When everyone is complaining about assignments. I like tracing each step and seeing how one tiny decisions eventually controls the whole soultion.
Of course I have hated mathematics too. There are evenings when a single problem has occupied my notebook for forty minutes, while my calculator sits beside me like an expensive witness to failure. I state at the equation drink cold tea., try one method, and wonder why I chose this.
Still, difficult moments make the good ones better. Sometimes I finally understand something that looked ridiculous twenty minutes earlier, and there is this tiny "ohhh" in my head. Nobody around me cares. My phone is buzzing. My notes are messy, and tomorrow's deadline still remains, but I feel strangely victorious.
I also love how mathematics appears outside classrooms. A bus turning angle, the angle of a cricket shot, the percentage on a sale, the way a phone predicts movement, even the pattern of tiles can become mathematical if I look closely. Suddenly ordinary things stop looking random and start looking connected.
May be that is where it's beauty lives for me;connections. A simple idea can travel much farther than expected, linking geometry to algebra, statistics to decisions or mathematics to programming. I enjoy discovering that something I learned months ago quietly appears somewhere else. It feels like finding an old friend.
I understand why someone people dislike mathematics, especially when it is taught as memorizing formulas before understanding why they work. I like it more when I can question a step, draw something test and example, or make a mistake. Then mathematics stops feeling like punishment and starts feeling like exploration.
I don't think I love mathematics because I am always good at it. Being wrong is part of what keeps me intersted . There is a particular satisfaction in struggling with a problem, refusing to give up and eventually seeing its logic. For me, mathematics is beautiful because curiosity becomes clearity.
The first time I got this realisation of the Beauty of mathematics was when I got a good teacher of mathematics on my high school. Yes, on my high school. It was not like I was a bad student at mathematics before that teacher but everything got better after that one teacher at my high school. Even now whenever I think of maths, that sir will only come to my mind. That is what a good teacher can do to your interest. Now everything is interesting for me. And don't mistake me for a genius cause I am not. I know where I stand both academically and intellectually. But I love mathematics even though soemtimes I am not good at that.
When a difficult problem finally becomes clear, do you
Your vote is final.
maths has been the most hardest subject in my life and I absolutely don't love it but there were some glimpses that made me like mathematics but mostly it was overshadowed by the guilt of solving integral and differential equations 😭😭
The beauty of knowing what you love, there is no way to be richer than that
