She was never just my sister …
She is three years older than me but it’s very strange how this age gap never overshadowed the fact that she’s everything to me . She guides me like a teacher ,loves me like a mother, provides for me like a father ,protects me like a brother and cares for me more than anyone else’s in the world .
No matter how many words I write I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell her what she truly means to me . She is not just my sister she’s my home , my strength and the person who has always stood by me
I still remember the day I was punished at the school for not submitting my home work even after the dead line had passed . The teacher called my sister complained about me and asked her to inform our parents . The entire day I was terrified, thinking she would tell papa and I would be scolded the moment I’ll reach home .But when the school was over and we were walking home together she didn't raise her voice or make me feel ashamed. Instead she calmly explained why what I had done was wrong. She told me she believed I was a good girl and that I was capable of doing better. She never tried to frighten me to change she made me want to become better because she believed I could. That day she taught me something far more valuable than any punishment ever could.
There have been countless moments like this. She has always guided me without judging or scolding me.She chose patience over anger and understanding over punishment. Looking back I think that's what made the biggest difference. She never forced me to become a better person she inspired me to become one.
I still remember when she was in the last year of school. She made me a promise that the day she started earning she would give me special treatment. At the time, I didn't think much of it but she never forgot. Today, whenever I ask her for something she never hesitates. She buys me things without thinking twice not because ask for them but because making me happy has always mattered to her. She proved that some promises aren't just made they are lived.
There was another time when I struggled with my confidence.I was always insecure about the way I looked and never cared enough to groom myself because I was afraid of being judged. Instead of dismissing my feelings she patiently made me understand that this was my life and I had every right to enjoy it without worrying about what other people thought of me. She taught me that taking care of myself wasn't about seeking validation it was about loving myself. That conversation changed the way I saw myself and I still carry her words with me.
Apart from being my guide, she has always been my greatest role model. She is the strongest person I have ever known. No matter how difficult life gets she always puts our family before herself giving more than she ever asks for in return. Her strength isn't loud , it's found in the little sacrifices she makes every day without experting anyone to notice.
I don't know if l will ever be able to repay everything she has done for me and maybe l never can. But I hope she always knows that every lesson she taught me every sacrifice she made and every time she chose patience over anger shaped the person I am today.
She may be my sister by relation but to me she has been a teacher ,a mother, a father, a protector, and my safest place all at once.If I become even half the person she is I will consider my life a success.
