Radio tune

This happened yesterday. I was sitting in the bedroom and working on my laptop. I was completely engrossed in my work. My mother was with me in the bedroom. She was sitting by the window where there is a lot of sunlight. She had needle in her hand, she was stitching a pillow cover. A small a re was kept on the window and she was listening to it. She loves her radio. Despite having a smartphone and an MP3 player she continued to listen to songs on the radio. It has something to do with the nostalgia I guess. Suddenly I heard a tune on the radio and I stopped working. I knew that you very well. It was the tune of Vividh Bharati. How can I ever forget that. That tune took me several years back.
I remember my school days. I used to wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning. I hate it waiting up so early. Are you wanted to sleep more. But I couldn't because I had to go to the school. With sleepy eyes and slow movements I would get ready for my school. It wasn't a pleasant experience. But still it is something I had to do. The radio would be on during this time. The same tune of with Bharti would be playing in the background while I would get ready for the school. It would be mild sunlight outside. Birds would be chirping. My mother would be in the kitchen making my tiffin. I would hear the whistle of the cooker. I would hear the sound of ladles. It would be okay morning but somehow it was still calm. Everything would have been rest but still it was not irritating. This was my typical morning in the school.
Today I heard the tune of Vividh Bharti and it made me nostalgic. I now understand why my mother loves listening to the radio. The radio definitely evoke memories. Looking back all those memories feel very pleasant. I do feel like the past was more peaceful than today. The nostalgia brought a strange sense of serenity. The memories associated with the radio tone were not pleasant. But when I remembered them today I became happy. I felt tranquil and peaceful. Being someone from the science stream I definitely try to understand the logic behind it. But of course I could not figure it out.
One small peek into the past brought back happiness and peace. I was suddenly feeling more energetic and enthusiastic. The memory took over the part of my brain which produced dopamine. It is unbelievable how our memories are bound to our senses. How a simple 3 second tune can change my mood. How do the simple notes were able to make me come at the same time energetic. Then I felt that may be it is a good to stop for a few seconds and think about the past. Maybe it is something that is giving me peace. Maybe that is what real happiness is. Maybe the adulthood is all about finding the best parts of our childhood.
