Old memory

Sometime an old memories, sudden comes back without any warning. It can happen because of a song, smell, place or even one completely random thought. It is strange how the mind keeps certain moment somewhere in the background, and then bring them back when we least expect them.

A few days ago, I was doing something completely normal when I suddenly remember an old memory from school. I do not even remember what exactly made me think about it. There was no particular reason. One thought simply lied to another, and certainly I was remembering a small event that I had not thought about any years.

It was not even an important memory. Nothing major had happened. It was just one ordinary day with few people I knew, some sili conversation and a lot of laughing over something that probably would not seem funny to me now, but remembering it made me smile. I think it is interesting. How we remember small things more clearly then we expect. I cannot remember what I ate that day or what homework I had, but I can’t remember where I was sitting and roughly what everyone was talking about some memories stays because of the feeling attached to them, rather than because of what actually happened.

After remembering that moment, I started thinking about how different life feels now. At that time, I had no idea what the future would look like. I was busy worrying about completely different things. Some of the things that seemed extremely important back, then do not matter to me anymore. Other things that I never thought about have become a normal part of my life now.

It made me realise how quickly things change without us noticing. We usually notice change only when we look back, while we are actually living through it, everything feels normal. Then one day we remember an old version of our cells and realise how much has happened since then.

I also find it funny that we cannot choose which memory came back. I can try really hard to remember something important that completely failed, but then a random smile or song and suddenly bring back an entire scene. It feels almost like my brain has its own little storage system that I have no control over.

Sometimes old memories makes me happy and sometimes they make me a little emotional. I think both reactions are normal. Remembering the past does not necessarily mean wanting to go back. It can simply mean appreciating a moment that was once a part of our life. There are also memories I would rather not think about, but even though these have Taught me something, they remind me of how I have changed, what I have learnt and what I would do differently now. Looking back can be useful when we do not get stuck there.

Maybe that is one of the nicest thing about memories, we cannot physically go back to the past, but sometimes our mind give us a few seconds there anyway.
