Night City Lives On

I knew Cyberpunk edgerunners had a sad ending before i even started watching it, but somehow that didn't make it hurt any less. I expected people to die. I expected thing to go wrong. What i didn't expect was becoming so attached to the characters in only ten episodes.

David Martinez

David starts off as just another kid trying to survive in Night City. He isn't a hero, and he never really wanted to become one. After his mother's death, every decision he makes slowly pushes him deeper into a world that keeps taking things away from him. Watching him replace more and more of his body with cyberware was difficult because you know where it's heading, but you still hope he'll stop before it's too late.

Maine

Then there was Maine. His descent into cyberpsychosis felt inevitable, but that didn't make it easier to watch. Seeing someone so strong completely lose himself was one of the moments that made me realize Night City doesn't really care who you are. It always wins. "Fast is what you do best, ain't it"

Rebecca

what surprised me the most was Rebecca. At first she seemed like comic relief, loud and reckless, but by the end she became one of my favorite characters. She stayed beside David until the very end, even when she knew there was almost no chance of surviving. her death was so sudden that i had to pause for a moment just to process what happened. There wasn't a dramatic goodbye or a long speech. She was simply gone.

Lucy

Lucy's story was probably the most heartbreaking. everything she did after episode six was to protect David, while David kept sacrificing himself because he wanted to protect her. They both trying to save each other, but neither of them could stop the ending that was coming. The final scene of Lucy standing alone on the Moon wasn't just sad because David was gone. It was sad because she finally reached the dream they wanted to share, but she had to experience it alone.

Conclusion

I think that's why Cyberpunk Edgerunners stays with so many people. it doesn't rely on shocking deaths alone. It gives you enough time to care about the characters first. By the time the credits roll, It feels less like you've finished an anime and more like you've said goodbye to people you've known for a long time.

Maybe that's the power of good storytelling. We know these characters never existed, yet the emotions they leave behind are completely real. Even weeks after finishing the series, I still find myself thinking about David, Lucy, Rebecca, and the life they could never have. Few stories manage to do that, and I think that's what makes Cyberpunk Edgerunners so unforgettable.

season 2 of Cyberpunk Edgerunners is gonna release on fall 2026 there's gonna be no David no Lucy no Rebecca no Maine new story new character truly David is dead but Night City lives on.

My favorite moment of the show is when Maine still remembered David even though he went full cyberpsyhosis after Dorios death. After Maine's death David startedd following not only the dream of Lucy but also Maine he started managing the crew once Maine managed the same crew that let in the same boy who had stole their military grade implant
