My relationship with silence
Today, I spent some time sitting quietly without any music , TV or phone. At first, it felt a little strange because I am so used to having some kind of background noise around me after a few minutes. I noticed that the silence no longer felt empty instant it felt calm and peaceful. It made me think about how my relationship with silence has changed over time. When I was younger i often felt uncomfortable in silence. I thought that every quiet moment needed to be filled with conversation, music, or something to keep me busy. Silence made me feel restless, and I would quickly find something to distract myself. I believe that a quiet room was boring, and I really appreciate those peaceful moments.
Now I see silence in a different way. It has become a place where I can slow down and breathe. During quiet moments, I enjoy my thoughts more clearly. I become more aware of my feeling instead of ignoring them. Sometimes silence help me understand what is really bothering me. Other times, it simply gives me a chance to rest without expecting anything from myself. I have also realised that silence does not always mean loneliness. In fact, some of my most peaceful moments happen when I am alone with my thoughts. I do not always need to be talking or doing something. Sitting quietly by a window, watching the sky or simply enjoying a peaceful evening can be enough to make me feel good. These simple moments remind me that peace is often found in ordinary part of life.
Silence has also taught me to become a better listener. When I am not thinking about what I want to say next, I pay more attention to the people around me. I noticed their words expressions and feelings more carefully.. sometimes listen quietly is more helpful than giving advice. It makes people feel understood, and it helps me build stronger relationships.
There are still days when silence feels difficult. If I am worried or stressed, being alone with my thoughts can feel uncomfortable. However, I am learning not to run away from those feelings. Instead, I try to sit with them for a while and understand why they are there. Most of the time, they become easier to handle once I stop avoiding them. Another thing I have learnt is that silence helped me appreciate small things that I usually missed. I noticed the sound of the birds outside, the wind moving through the trees or the quiet feeling of evening after a busy day. These little moment help me feel connected to the present instead of constantly thinking about the past or worrying about the future.
I know that life will always be busy and full of noise, but I also want to protect these quiet moments. They remind me to slow down, listen to myself and enjoy the simple peace that silence can bring. I believe that this is quiet moment help me become calmer, more patient and more grateful for every day life..
This reminded me of something. A few weeks ago my phone died while I was travelling, and for the first few minutes I kept reaching for it without even thinking. Then I just sat by the window and watched people, the trees, and the sky. It felt oddly peaceful. I realised how rarely I let myself be alone with my own thoughts. Reading this brought back that feeling. Thanks for sharing it.
Some people may think that they are overthinking when they are silent. That is true but it is our mind. We can turn the direction of our thinking when we can
as we grow up and experience the world we understand the meaning and importance of silence. sometimes all we need a silence so that we can think in peace. sometimes all we need is silence so that we can gather our thoughts. silence is Golden and it is underrated
