My future child asked me ome question

AnonymousJul 12, 2026440 words

"Tell me aboitt your life". I smiles.

"I worked hard".

"What job did you have" I startes to answer bey stopped. Because somehow that didn't feel like an important part. Then my child started to ask me a different question.

"What did you stand for?". Not the degree I earned. Not how much money I made. Not how many people knew my name. Just....What did you stand for?

I think that's they kind of question that follows all of us throughifr. We spend yourad building career and collecting achievement and chasing goals but very little time asking ourselves what we would still be remembered for if all those things disappeared.

If my future child asked me that question I hope I won't be having to think too long.

I would was not say that I stopped for kindness in a world that rewarded cruelty. That when it was easier to ignore someone who was struggling I chose to stop and help. That I never beleived compassion was weakness even when toehres laughed at it.

I would have wanted to say that I have stood for curiosity. That I never stopped asking questions or learning new things. That I reminded humble enough to admit that I was worng and brave enough to change my mind when I learner a better and bitter truth.

I would want to say I stood for justice. Not only the kind that is written in laws bit the quiet kind that lives in everyday choices. Standing beside the person everyone else ignored. Speaking up when Silence would have been more comfortable. Refusing to trate people differently because of their background and appearance or circumstances.

I hope that I could tell them that I stood for courage...not the dramatic kind found in movies but the ordinary courage to keep going after failure, to apologise when I hurt someone and to forgive when resentment felt easier and to stay true to my values even when no one was watching.

Most of all I would want them to know that I stood for people. That I beleived that success meant very little if I had to step on other to achieve it. That I tried to leave every place a little kinder that I found it and every person feeling a little more seen than we met.

May be one day When I am not longer here, my future childe will tell their children stories about me and I hope that they don't being with if they were rich or famous but with something simpler like the kind of the person who always tried to do the right things
