My Brain Has a Personal Grudge Against Me

Yesterday, I decided to sleep early.
At 10:30 p.m., I proudly put my phone away, closed my eyes, and told myself, “Tomorrow, we’re becoming productive.”
At 10:31, my brain said,
“Remember that embarrassing thing you said in 2017?”
Excuse me?
I ignored it.
Then it reminded me of another embarrassing thing.
Then another.
By 11:15, I was mentally reviewing conversations with people I haven't spoken to in years.
At 12:02, I suddenly remembered that I forgot to reply to someone three days ago.
At 12:17, I started planning my entire future.
At 1:03, I was wondering whether penguins have knees.
At 1:26, I finally fell asleep.
My alarm rang at 7.
I opened one eye, looked at the ceiling, and made the most important decision of the day:
“Tomorrow. Definitely tomorrow.”
And honestly, I think tomorrow is getting tired of me too. 😭
It’s that exhausting feeling of being held hostage by your own internal wiring. You aren't even fighting an external enemy; you’re locked in a grueling, one-sided cage match with the very organ that’s supposed to be on your side. All day long, it feeds you worst-case scenarios, magnifies your smallest awkward moments, and weaponizes your own exhaustion against you. When you want to rest, it pulls up a highlight reel of every mistake you’ve ever made. When you try to focus, it scatters your thoughts like glass. It’s like living with an unreliable roommate who lives inside your skull, sabotaging your peace, whispering doubt just as you're starting to feel okay, and actively refusing to let you catch a break. It’s maddening, lonely, and deeply exhausting—this quiet betrayal from the one place you should always feel safe.
The 10:30 “I’m going to sleep early and be productive tomorrow” plan is always so convincing until your brain decides it’s the perfect time to bring up every embarrassing memory ever 😭. It’s honestly impressive how our brains can remember something from years ago exactly when we’re trying to sleep. 😂
This is painfully relatable 😂 The brain really waits until bedtime to open a full archive of embarrassing memories, future plans, forgotten replies, and completely random questions. And “tomorrow is getting tired of me too” is the perfect ending. 😭🌙
