More than just a Notes app

For most people, the notes are simply a place to write reminders of shopping list. For me, it has become much more than that. It quietly holds different part of my life that I have never shared with many people. Sometime feel like my notes knows me better than anyone else. Whenever I have a thought that I do not want to forget, I write it down when I feel excited about a new plan, I open my notes, create a to do list, save a quote or think about a new goal, all goes into my note. Over time, it has become a collection of my thoughts, dreams, memories, and different version of myself.

I am not someone who is share everything I feel. I often keep my emotions to myself. Whenever something is on my mind, especially late at night when everyone is asleep, i open my notes app instead of texting someone. Sometimes it is 2 in the morning and I simply need a place to empty my thoughts. I write whenever I am feeling without worrying about whether it sound right or wrong. It gives me a quiet space where I can be completely honest.

there is a famous line written by any Frank in her diary on June 20, 1942 “ paper has more patience than people”. Every time I read those words, I feel they still make sense today. The only difference is that for many of us, paper has been replaced by Notes app on our phones. My notes never interrupt me, never judge me and never get tired of listening. They quietly keep everything I choose to leave there.

When I scroll through my old notes, I do not just read words. I meet old version of myself. I see list of goals I wanted to achieve, internship. I wanted to apply for courses. I plan to take and books. I wanted to read and even random things that I wanted to buy one day. Some of those screens have already come true, while other have changed with looking back, remind me that I have grown more than I often realise. My Notes app also hold the days when I was happy, excited, confused or heartbroken. Some pages are filled with motivation, while other were written during moments when I simply needed to let my things out. Reading them is like opening some chapter of my own life. Every note remind me of different version of myself.

To other people, it is only an app on a phone. To me, it is a quiet diary that I never plan to write. It remembers the thought I forgot, the dreams i once lived in and the movement that shaped me. My Notes app is more than a place to save information. It is a place where I have slowly collected pieces of myself over the years. Maybe that is why I never deleted those notes. They remind me not only of where I wanted to go, but also of how far I have already come.
