Life - Friends, Drama, Fun
I spent hours thinking about how we meet such temporary and permanent people in our lives.
I belong to a very small town situated in Uttar Pradesh, the friendships, the families are so close knit that leaving them behind for building our life apparently becomes so difficult
I did take that difficult decision and shifted to Delhi at the mere age of 18, knowing nothing about the fast paced city of Delhi.
Ever since I was a child I was fascinated by the thought of Delhi, a studious kid with a keen interest in History it really was a dream for me to visit and experience the architecture and culture of Delhi first hand. So, here I was.
Initially, I did face a lot of problem being the younger child adjusting to a new city, not very great right? However, I did have a school friend with me and that is what I want to talk about here. The friend, apparently was not a really great friend and mind you we were besties for like 6 years. She used to leave me alone and hey I get it, I am on my own once I leave my home etc, but I was a child, I had some expectations, which was merely as my friend would stand beside me when I am sick, when she can clearly see I am suffering but chooses people she had just met over me, that would hurt right?
However, I had to learn it the hard way that time does not define your friendship, your heart does. I had to build my life my life, my friends from scratch to survive in the city.
When I look back, I am so grateful to her for showing her reality so early because honestly I would have been stuck in that friendship forever and hence, I wouldn’t be so desperate to find love and comfort outside which I did and I am so thankful for it.
Ever since, my trust in friendships have changed, the paranoia in me always stays but I made friends, I got the people who would be there for me at 2 AM in the night and I would happily do so.
I am a postgraduate now, I did my MBA from Delhi University, I have a stable job and I know its silly but it is only because I have learnt to live life on my own. Eat alone, face hurdles alone, sleep alone. Once you become comfortable in your skin, there is nothing which can pull you back.
Nevertheless, anyone who has been my friend, my acquaintance, my closed space, I would wish nothing but the best life to them because out of everything I have become, I can never be evil and not foul-hearted.
The moral of the story is boys and girls - You are Enough, you thrive alone, the people who are meant to be yours will definitely join along the way, you don’t need to force it upon them. Try leaving your comfort zone, it is pulling you back and you are so much more than that.
Moving to a new city at such a young age is never easy. I think many people underestimate how lonely that transition can feel, especially when the friendships you trusted don’t turn out the way you expected.
it hurts when friendship teachers some of the painful life lessons. but after all as you said we are on our own and we are enough. we do not need any friend to take care of us.
