Last Day in Comfort.

Years ago, as a eighteen years old, new to adulthood and even newer to the life that comes along with it, I was set to join my college away from home.
‘Home’ has never been a light word for me. Home is always something that I love feom a very early age. It is the land that I belong to and the city that I breathe. Every fibre of my being is knitted into the individual I am and was at that point by the means of this Home that i had spent eighteen years of my life in. And just like that, in the matter of one night, I would bliw away from it. It was a nostalgia that i was living in. With every introverted essence of my brain, I was waiting in a miracle that would delay my departure that night. I sat and cried, wailed for the day to hold, for time to stop and for the sun to pause. I was not ready. I was never going to be ready. As someone who has always fancied myself to be a poet of aome kind, I did what i knew best. Wrote a poem about my grief.
My diary was carefully packed with my luggage. I took it out, held my pen and wrote:
Eyes fluttered to welcome the sunlight
Of the day that I detest
“Stay shut, no sunrise yet,”
I denied sun’s arrival to my best.
But the rays wait for none,
How long could the lids pretend?
Finally, unfurling to embark
Upon the beginning of end.
I sat till midday, dwelling on thoughts,
my feet soaked in grass.
Hours moved in mere seconds,
Minutes took days to pass.
The sunflowers
Had now turned
Their heads, from east to west.
The skies
With hands out;
The subset ready to arrest.
The gleaming moon
Stood in the corner,
Waiting to overtake.
No further
Could nature’s sympathy
Go for my sake.
The first tear from my orb
Triggered, something eroded.
As if a sign to begin the fall,
The lingering elements exploded.
“The day has come to a close,”
The extinguishing dusk bellowed
“And with it, closes the journey of beams,”
The winds of pain echoed.
I put my pen down and noticed that my poem had manifeated its end, just as the day had. The hour that I dreaded came about and no miracle saved me. I boarded that train and i left my home.
Months later, and now years, i reflected back on this poem and saw a kid that was just afraid of getting out of their comfort zone. It was important for me to step out into the real world and face it so that i could grow.
This one is for all the kids out there who are afraid, fearful of taking a risk that would change their lives. Believe me, it is a significant step towards being yourself.
Home certainly is the foundation of who you are, but there is so much more that you can build upon tgat foundation. Trust me, missing home is far better than missing an opportunity.
Looking back, was the fear of leaving home worth the growth that came from it?
Your vote is final.
This is so relatable. I could feel every emotion
