Intervention needed

It was a boring Monday. I was working on my desk waiting for 4 o'clock so that I can go on a coffee break. My phone buzzed, my friend Pooja was calling me. I answered the phone, "Come down at the cafeteria right now. Rohan is crying over Priti" said Pooja with frustration in her voice. This was just what I did not need at that moment - drama.

I went to the cafeteria where I found Rohan and Pooja at a table. Pooja look at me and rolled her eyes. Rohan had kept his head on the table.

"Rohan what happened?" I asked directly. I was expecting direct answers.

" I cannot believe Preeti is leaving me. She is getting married. Yesterday she distributed her wedding invitation to the entire floor and she told me specifically to attend the wedding. After all that we have been through she expect me to attend her wedding? This world is heartless," Rohan did not look up. It was evident that he was crying. I was seeing a new age "Devdas" who was drowning in tea.

" Rohan this is all because of you. When she joined our team we knew that she is engaged. She herself would show her engagement ring telling everyone that how rich her fiance is. You should not have gotten in world with her. She was never supposed to be your girlfriend. Everyone new that she was to be married very soon. We are sad for you at the same time you are responsible for your condition, " I realised later that I was too direct and said without empathy.

" Obviously you are the 'know it all person' of our team. Do you not care about me? Do you not have any empathy towards me? I am crying my heart out and all you care about is facts. What kind of person you are? Are you even my friend?" He asked me still not looking at me.

" Rohan I am your friend and that is why I am so direct with you. He was always out of the reach because she was engaged. I agree she was pretty and sweet but still you should have stayed away from her. I feel really sorry for you but at the same time I know it it's something that you could have easily avoided, " I felt really sad looking at his condition but facts were important to bring him back to reality.

" This is what I have been telling you Rohan. Preeti has already left, she has told you not to contact her. What are you going to do next? You have to focus on your work and career? Once you start focusing on work you will start to forget her. Besides we have a new batch joining in the next week. Maybe you will find another girl in that batch," Pooja said and looked at me. I tried to control my laughter but both of us brust out laughing.

Now Rohan looked up. His eyes were red and swollen because of crying. He said, " you all girls are heartless. You do not deserve love. It is all a joke for you," he was really hurt.

"Yes and that is why we are friends to pull you out of your ocean of love. If we do not exist you would surely drown. You should thank us for being with you and distracting you from your heartbreak. Cheer up there is a wedding on the way which we have to attend," I said and again we bursted out laughing. This time Rohan joined us too.

It was indeed disartening how Preeti had treated Rohan. Also we had to take this entire thing casually to bring Rohan out of the mess. It was painful but gradual. Finally after a few months Rohan was able to overcome his heartbreak and hemod on with his life.

2 years later Pooja and I attended Rohan's wedding. It was our biggest victory.

Life has a way of surprising us. What feels like the end of everything can become the beginning of something better.
