I Wanted to Be an Influencer Until Everyone Wanted the Same Thing
In my teenage, I wanted to be an influencer too. Honestly, it looked like the perfect life. You could share your thoughts, people would listen to you, brands would work with you, and somehow your everyday life would become interesting to thousands of people. It felt like freedom and success at the same time.
But lately, I've been thinking about how strange things have become. Everywhere I look, every second person wants to be an influencer. Everyone is building a personal brand, creating content, posting reels, sharing opinions and trying to grow an audience. Sometimes it feels like we are all trying to influence each other.
I often wonder when this happened. When did our hobbies become content? When did going out for coffee become something that needed to be posted online? When did ordinary moments start feeling incomplete if they weren't shared with other people?
I don't think wanting to create is wrong. I actually enjoy creating things and sharing my thoughts sometimes. But somewhere along the way, it started feeling like there is pressure to always be visible. If you're not posting, it feels like you're falling behind. If you're not building an audience, it feels like you're missing an opportunity. If you're not creating content, it almost feels like you're disappearing. And honestly, that's a little scary. Sometimes I think we don't actually want to be influencers. Maybe we just want to be seen. Maybe we want people to listen to our ideas. Maybe we want proof that our lives matter and that we matter too.
I think that's a very human feeling.
But I also think we've started confusing attention with value. Not everything needs to become content. Not every memory needs a camera. Not every beautiful moment needs an audience.
Some of the best moments in my life have happened when nobody was watching.
I still like creating things. I still enjoy sharing parts of my life sometimes. But I don't want to live every moment thinking about how it will look on social media. I don't want to turn every experience into content.
Maybe the real freedom today is being able to enjoy something without feeling the need to post it. Maybe the most meaningful parts of our lives are the ones that stay private.
And maybe that's the crazy part about this generation. In a world where everyone wants to be seen, sometimes the most peaceful thing is to simply exist, quietly, without an audience.
very well said, i think there was a time when even i started posting only for attention. it was honestly a very sad and annoying time!
Attention is a wierd thing isn't it
I feel that every media is saturated with the content creators. Hardly we see a relevant and meaninful content nowadays.
