I'm Afraid of Becoming Someone Who Just Keeps Chasing the Next Thing
When I was younger, I thought life would become easier after every milestone.
Get into a good college.
Then get a good internship.
Then build good projects.
Then get a job.
I imagined that each achievement would finally make me feel like I had "made it."
But college has taught me something different.
Every time I reach one goal, another one quietly takes its place.
The excitement lasts for a day, maybe a week. Then my mind moves on to the next application, the next certification, the next skill I should learn.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm actually enjoying this journey or just collecting milestones because I'm afraid of standing still.
The strange part is that no one tells us how to deal with this feeling.
We're taught how to prepare for exams.
We're taught how to write code.
We're taught how to build résumés.
But no one teaches us how to feel content while we're still growing.
Lately, I've been trying something different.
When I finish a project, I don't immediately open another course.
I spend a little time looking back.
I think about what confused me in the beginning, what I understand now, and how much I've changed without even noticing.
Those quiet moments remind me that growth isn't only about reaching the next destination.
Sometimes it's about recognizing how far you've already come.
Maybe success isn't a finish line waiting somewhere in the future.
Maybe it's learning to appreciate the person you're becoming while you're still on the way.
The line about every goal quietly replacing the last one... that's exactly how college feels sometimes. Really relatable.
This is beautifully written. Success is not a standard thing. We can be happy even when we lose and sad even when have everything achieved. Personally I think success and happiness and contentment does not go well along with each other.
It’s good that we realize it before the void that creeps in after there is nothing left to chase.
