I looked at the mirror and I saw a girl wearing a huge bandaid . I stared at it so long that the girl's face started to become blurry and the bandaid was the only thing that I kept seeing clearly. Curiosity strikes , what is the wound behind the bandaid , is it healed yet , so I kept on checking it again and again and something in me felt alive when I see that it was still there the wound fresh as new. Even when it tried to be better i just picked it out of habit , I couldn't let it go ,not without a scar. The bandaid I need it , a soldier without a battle scar may not be a warrior or a hero to others. So I fed that fire that once kept me warm knowing it was now burning everything that was once mine, I fed it with memories, hurt , anger . But where's that girl wearing the bandaid , she was so much more , her smile , her dreams , her peace where did that go ? Maybe there will be no scar. Maybe there will be no ashes, no evidence left behind. But I know it was real. I know I survived. And maybe that is enough. So let the wound close. Let the fire rest. Let the bandaid fall away. So when I look into the mirror again , I'll see the girl take the spotlight and not the old bandaid.
This is so beautifully and poetically written
this is a powerful metaphor for healing specially the idea that shows we hold onto the pain because it has become part of how we see ourselves the ending beautifully shifts from surviving the wound to allowing yourself to heal f
This made me choke on my tears. I felt it deeply. I hope you get the peace that you deserve. You are brave to have overcome this battle.
