How I realised the real value of my parents

AnonymousJun 21, 2026595 words

Two years of my college life come to an end now. Hi everyone, I am currently studying English literature at University of Delhi and only one year of my college life is left. During these two years, my life was a rollercoaster. In the initial days, I wanted to quit my college and wanted to because of the inferiority complex I felt there. Everyone around me, whether it was seniors or batchmates, were too talented. Some of them are actors, photographers, violinist, international sports players, influencers, artists, dancers etc. And they all come from a very rich and nurtured background. My family on the other side focused only on my education and not on any extra curricular activities. At that time while I joined the college, I couldn't even speak English properly.

At times, it was hard because you cannot stay full of motivation all the time. I did want to quit leave Delhi, a city full of noisee and hustle and bustle. I wanted to go back to my hometown where during morning, I heard sounds of birds chirping, slow cold winds and the smell of fresh tea while my mom was preparing breakfast for me and my siblings in the kitchen. At home, everything was so settled and smooth till my school life. I got to eat whenever I wanted. At any random moment, I could enter my kitchen and search here and there for food and take away anything which I wanted. But here in my hostel, I am bounded by the timings. The tyranny of mechanical timings and the obsession with it. In hostel, we do have proper timings for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner and if you miss any there's no one like mom who would care after you and constantly reminds you to eat. Though, we can eat the snacks which we have stored in our room, but there's some different kind of magic in the food cooked by mom's hands and this food is incomparable and irreplaceable.

This thing made me realise the worth and the real value of my mom's and dad's efforts for me. It opened my eyes to a very far extent. No one will ever be able to do as much as our parents have done for us. Nobody can love and guide me like them.

The initial month in Delhi was very hard for me to survive. One of the main reason for this was that I have always lived in a big house with large, open and airy verandahs and rooms (though I have not got my personal room till date). But here in Delhi, I had no option but to live in a restricted and confined area of a one single room. And in that too, with no privacy like Indian households. We need to share the room with another person.

But like people say, you have to lose something to gain something. I lost the love, care and nurturing of my parents and in return I got a chance to pursue my dream course in one of the top colleges of University of Delhi and to live the life I've always dreamt of living - staying far away from home and all the toxic relatives. I now found my home in Delhi itself. I have a few friends here who made my survival possible here by treating me like a member of their own family. So far, I am so grateful to the Almighty God who has given me everything till date. Thankyou Dear God and my dear lovely Parents.
