Finding what I was looking for

There is a special kind of happiness that comes from finding something you have been looking for. It may be a small thing like a missing fan or favourite Tshirt or a charger or a power bank or even house keys. The object itself usually ordinary, but the feeling of finally finding it is satisfying. It usually start the same way. I remember exactly where I think I kept the items so I confidently go to that place. But when I look, it is not there. Check the same spot again, just in case, I somehow missed it for the first time. Still nothing. Then I began searching everywhere.

At first, I stay calm. I look on my desk, inside my bag, under a book and in random drawers. After a few minute, I begin, wondering if the item has magically disappeared. Sometime the search becomes a small adventure of its own.

The funny part is that the Harder I search, the less likely I am to find it. I walk from one room to another, checking the same places over and over again, hoping that somehow the missing object will suddenly appear. Sometime I even ask someone else for help, and then find it within seconds. I always wonder how they manage to see something that seemed completely invisible to me.

There are also moments when I stop looking because I become frustrated. I tell myself that I will search later. Then when I least expect it, I suddenly noticed the missing items sitting right in front of me. It was there the whole time, but somehow my eyes kept skipping over it.

Finding it instantly change my mood. All the distress disappear and I feel relieved. It is funny how something so small can make me so happy sometime. I even laugh because the object was hiding in such an of place that I cannot believe I missed it.

This happens with more than just physical object. Sometime I spend hours trying to remember a word, a movie title or the name of a song. No matter how hard I think, I cannot remember it. Then later in the day when I am doing something completely unrelated, the answer suddenly popped into my mind. It feels like a satisfying is finding a lost object.

These little moments remind me that not everything has to be perfect. We all lost things, forget things and waste time searching. It is simply part of everyday life. It can annoying in the moment, it often become something we laugh about later.

I have also learned that patients help. Panicking rarely makes me find things faster. Sometime flowing down, take a deep breath and looking carefully works much better than rushing around. The happiness of finding what I was looking for is difficult to explain unless you have experienced it. It is one of those tiny victory that makes an ordinary day a little better. The object may not be valuable, but the feeling of finally saying “that it is” always worth celebrating.
