Fever in the wedding

Place: Banquet hall

Time: Morning, I don't know the exact time because I am not wearing my watch

Vibe: Vibrant

Feeling: Feverish

I am sitting on a chair. It is just a regular chair but since this is a banquet hall, there is a cloth drift around it to make it look fancy. But in reality it is not looking fancy.

I am looking around. I see vibrant Colors everywhere. I see that all my relatives have dressed up really well and in bright colours. In this condition I am feeling little better to look at those bright colours. But nothing is changing the fact that I am not well. My beautiful blue dress, my bangles, my necklace, my earrings, nothing can make me feel better. No it is not an emotional thing I have flu. I am burning with fever.

I see right in front of me my cousin who is the bride. She is wearing a beautiful yellow saree which is the traditional colour for the wedding. She is looking exceptionally beautiful today. I believe it is the glow of the Indian bride. The rituals are going on. They are sitting in front of the sacred fire. I want to sit in front of the fire too. The chilled air of the AC its killing me and I am really feeling cold. That is why the fire looks so comforting.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up. It was my cousin Rahul. He brought me a cup of coffee. Thank god for the coffee. It is really steaming hot. Every sip of that coffee is relieving the pain I have in my throat. As soon as I finished the coffee my throat was back to how it was earlier - painful and itchy.

Rahul asked me if I want something to eat. I denied. "You should eat something. You have to take the medications," he insisted. I really do not want to eat anything. I have completely lost my appetite due to this flu. I cannot even taste anything - every thing tastes like a cardboard. But what Rahul said is right. I should eat something before taking the medicines.

Now I hear the Shehnai. That means the main wedding rituals are going to commence. My aunts came to me to tell me that we need to go near the bride and the groom for the rituals. I told them that I would rather sit here then going near the bride and the groom because I have really bad viral infection. It was really funny to see how quickly they stepped away from me after hearing "viral infection". They almost jumped. Their reaction made me chuckle.

Now that the wedding rituals are over I am looking for my parents. This entire event is now beyond tolerance for me. The noise is making me uncomfortable. Sitting on a chair is a pain. I have terrible headache and bodyache. I just want to go home and sleep. I am unable to keep my eyes open. I told one of my younger cousins to go and fetch my parents. He just came back and told me that my parents are required for another ritual. Asked my messenger cousin to tell my parents that I am going to leave by a cab because I am not feeling well at all.

I am in the cab now and I am on my way to home. I cannot wait to be at home. I know everybody is going to be upset with me because I left the wedding early yet nobody is going to appreciate that I attended the wedding even though I had really high fever.

This is how the family affairs are. Whatever you do you will be criticized. At this point I am not sure whether these are my own thoughts or the fever is doing all the talking.

When you feel sick at a family event and want to go home, do you

This captures how even the brightest celebrations can feel distant when you’re unwell sometimes simply showing up is an act of love that no one else gets to see

They were right when they said "health is wealth". Being unwell for anything takes the joy out of it.

Rest is selfish, even more so if yoh are unwell. Enduring everything does not is not and should not be necessary for you to prove that you caree.

Writer replied

Yes. It is absurd that people expect an unwell person to sit through the entire wedding in the name of "enjoying".
