Favourite seat

This incident occurred when I was working with a corporate organisation. Our office had provided us with a shuttle facility. I used to take the shuttle facility because it was very convenient. This incident occurred in our shuttle bus.

I prefer to take a window seat. This is because in the travel I do not like to immerse myself into the mobile phone. I like to use my travel time as my off screen time. I tried to avoid my mobile phone while travelling. If I am not looking at the mobile phone then I like to see outside the window. I love watching the lives of other people. I enjoy watching animals from the window while commuting. Another simple reason why I love window seat is because I like the wind against my face. So if window seat is available I will definitely bag that. It does not matter if the window seat is towards the front or the back I will take it regardlessly. One such a day I had taken the window seat. A woman came and stored next to me. She gently tapped on my shoulder. She asked me politely, "will you please give me the window seat? I have severe motion sickness". I understood her trouble. Motion sickness can be really annoying. I offered her my window seat and I sat somewhere else. She took the seat that I had offered and sat there.

Now what happened next day left me in shock. Next day again I had taken a window seat. This was one of the holidays and because of work I had been to the office. The bus was almost empty. A pass that had capacity of 50 seats had only occupied around 7 seats. The woman from the previous day entered the bus and walked directly towards me. She requested for the window seat. I looked around. There were many weekend window seats in the bus. I was confused as why is she asking me for a seat when there are plenty of window seats available. I politely told her to take another weekend window seat and I have already settled here. The woman tells me that this is her preferred seat. Now this confused me even further. Yesterday this seat wasn't we can't but she asked me for the window seat where I was sitting. He did not ask the person who was sitting in her preferred seat to vacate the seat for her but she had asked me. I again told her that there are many weekend to window seats and she should take one of those rather than ask me to move. I was very polite and assertive with my justification. Yet the woman got angry. She started yelling at me. She said I should be more empathetic and I should give up the seat to someone who is unwell. I reminded her that I had been empathy to her condition yesterday and had offered her the seat. Today she can take any window seat which is available and she should not ask me to move. She what till upset and she was still yelling at me to vacate the seat and give it to her.

If the situation would have been different I would have given up the seat and I would have moved somewhere else. But here I had noticed the entitled behaviour and I was not going to back down because of it. I stood my ground and told her to grow up and take another seat. By this time people around me had noticed the discussion between us. Most of them had taken the same bus previous day, hence they were aware of this women's tantrums. One elder lady stood up who apparently knew her. She told the other lady that she should take another seat and should not cause any commercial to disturb others. With her stone words the woman shot one look at me and took another seat. The elder lady then told me that whatever I had done today is something that was required for a very long time. She said that the other woman is an entitled brat and thinks that every one should listen to her and she can boss around. She definitely required a lesson to be taught.

Now I had no intention of teaching anybody a lesson. But I do not allow anybody to dominate me unnecessarily. Fighting over a prefer seat is a very childish behave your in my opinion. I was good night that I was able to stand up to a bully.

I would've reacted the same honestly. You helped her when she actually needed it. After that it just felt like she expected everyone to adjust for her. Good that you didn't give in.

You did the right thing. There are many seats in the bus and she still chose to come to you to DEMAND your seat
