Falling in love with Madhuri Dixit (again)

Before I begin, let me get some things straight: I am a girl and I have fallen in love with Madhuri Dixit.. Again.

I was a child who was not allowed to watch TV much. Films were alien. So my exposure to films and film stars was almost equivalent to nothing. As a 90s child, I first came across the name 'Madhuri Dixit' when I was maybe in Grade 2. A teenage didi from my society would always talk 'Madhuri Dixit this, Madhuri Dixit that'. Obviously I was curious who Madhuri Dixit was. One day that did announced she had the same haircut that Madhuri Dixit had in the latest film. So was so over the moon.

Then my cousins (who also had last name 'Dixit') told me that Madhuri Dixit was their distant relative. They told me that they had met her several times. She looked more beautiful in person than she looks on the screen. Still I had no idea because I did not know who this mysterious beauty was because I had never seen her. But I was really intrigued to know more about her because of the praise I was hearing.

Then 'Hum aapke hai kaun' got released. My sister wanted to watch the film. My mother took me and my sister to the theatre to watch it. This is when on the big screen I saw the goddess in human form called 'Madhuri Dixit'. Oh boy, I understood the hype. She really was gorgeous. Her smile could light up the whole city. Her eyes were expressive enough that no words were needed. Her each move was graceful. Her dance was elegant, skillful, and effortless. She looked like god's perfect creation. She looked like a woman of substance - beauty, grace, elegance, talent, everything. Needless to say I had fallen in love with her. I admired her. I thought to myself when I will grow up, I shall become an elegant woman like her - A woman who is graceful in mischief. A woman who is beautiful even in her difficult phase. A woman who is loved by the family and someone who loves them back (I get it I had fallen in love with Nisha instead of Madhuri, but I was too young to see the difference. Or maybe Madhuri and Nisha became one in that film).

Years passed and I had found more hobbies other than films. I drifted apart while pursuing education and other activities. I had not watched any of Madhuri's recent work. I had much drifted away from my admiration for film actors. But everything changed yesterday.

I watched 'Premgranth' which stars Madhuri Dixit. While watching it I felt as if I had again become that young girl who used to admire Madhuri Dixit. Even in 2026, I was blown away by her beauty, skills, elegance, dance, and expression. But this time she did not appear like a goddess but a gorgeous woman. I saw her imperfections - her textured skin, her acne marks, her imperfect hair. But somehow those imperfections made her more beautiful. She looked like an imperfect effortless beauty. Her unique features made her stand out.

Comparing her with any actresses of current is age is an injustice. Madhuri Dixit is simply unmatched in all aspects. May god bless this 90s icon.

When seeing someone you've admired for years, do you

As a kid growing up in 90s, I know the craze of Madhuri Dixit. She is still the icon. But her in 90s was an epitome of beauty and elegance. She was the big star. Her outfits from hum aapke hai kaun had become so popular (I too had the red dress). She was known for her dance but her acting skills too were top notch.
