Do not disturb
There was a time from every notification immediately caught my attention. Even if I was studying, watching a movie, or just spending time with my family, I would stop what I was doing just to check my phone. It becomes such a habit that I did not even realise how often my focus was being interrupted. A few months ago, I started using the do not disturb mode on my phone more often. At first, I only turned it on while studying or while sleeping. Slowly, I began using it whenever I wanted some quiet time. I realise that those few hours without constant notification felt surprisingly peaceful.
When Do Not Disturb is on, on my phone become more less distracting. I no longer feel that need to check every message the moment arrives. I stop wondering who like my post, who send a text or what new notification just appear. Instead, I start focused on whatever I am doing at that moment. At first, I was worried that I might miss something important. I kept thinking that someone might need me or that I would fall behind if I did not check my phone regularly. But after using it for a while, I realised that most notifications are not as urgent as they Seems. The world does not stop just because I reply a little later.
One thing I love about do not disturb is that it gives me permission to slow down. I can read a book, finish and assignment, watch a movie or simply enjoy a quiet evening without feeling pulled towards my phone in every few minutes. It reminded me that my attention is valuable and that I get to decide where I give it. I have also noticed that I feel less anxious when my phone is not constantly demanding my attention . There is no pressure to reply instantly or stay updated every second. Instead of reacting to every notification, I become more present in my own life. I enjoy conversation more, focus better, and even sleep more peacefully when my phone is silent.
of course, I am not saying that phones are bad. They help us stay connected, learn new things and keep in touch with people we care about the problem is not the phone itself. The problem is forgetting that we also need moments without it. Using do not disturb taught me something simple, but important. I do not have to be available every minute of the day. It is okay to take a break from Messages, social media and notifications. The people who truly care about me, will understand if I reply a little later.
Today, turning on do not disturb has become more than just changing a phone setting. It has become a small act of taking care of myself. It reminded me that peace is not always found by escaping the world. Sometime it is begin with something as simple as choosing a little silence. In a world where everyone is constantly connected, giving myself a little quiet hours has become one of the healthiest habit that I have developed.
> A simple yet meaningful reminder. We often don't realize how much constant notifications fragment our attention until we intentionally step away from them. I especially liked the idea that "our attention is valuable, and we get to decide where we give it." Sometimes, protecting our peace starts with something as small as turning on Do Not Disturb.
This is such a relatable and meaningful perspective. In a world where we are constantly surrounded by notifications, choosing silence sometimes feels like choosing ourselves. A small habit like this can bring more peace, focus, and presence into everyday life.
That is a good move. Notifications distract us a lot. I am really willing to try this
